Sometimes I wonder does Prodigy even know how much the diehard Mobb fans love this album. I never hear him mention it.

Here's your answer:

“I learned my lesson from doing the Return of the Mack album. Because when I look back on it people were actually thinking that was my album. It sold whatever. So [you learn] that money is not always the most important thing. What’s most important when it comes to our music is making sure our brand has stayed strong at a certain level, and doesn’t come down from there. So when I was working on this EP I decided to make it for free this time. Because someone could have easily paid me a lot of money for a new Prodigy album after I just came home from jail. But I didn’t do that. I’m not going to have people call this an album

:dwillhuh: Wait, so does P not even fukk with ROTM? Sounds like he thinks it had a negative effect on the Mobb legacy. Or am I reading this wrong?

This is what he says about Return of The Mac

Return of the Mac was really a set up. I wasn’t really looking for a check when I first made it. I was actually going to give that CD [away]. There were so many samples that it was like no way in hell we could put it out. So I was going to give it to Whoo Kid and put it out there for free. But before I even dropped a song for it, I shot a video for one of the songs [‘Mack 10 Handle’]. It was the first time anyone had ever put the video out first on the Internet before you even heard the song. So when I did that people were like, ‘Yo, what the fukk is this? There’s a crazy video on the Internet.’

It was real psychotic. The devil is in the video and I’m stabbing a couch, and blood is coming out the couch. It’s like a real crazy type of rock video. And that was my whole idea to make a video like that…because the Internet, in today’s world, you have to have something that stands out and to make people talk. So I did something controversial. I wanted to make people say, ‘What the fukk is this video about? Is he crazy now?’ [laughs] We did that and it worked. In three days it had 500,000 views. So after that, I started getting phone calls like, ‘What is this video you put out?’ I told them it was just a mixtape I got coming, getting people ready for my H.N.I.C. 2. So I started getting the money calls now like, ‘Yo, how much you want for that mixtape? Because that video is crazy.’

The offers were so much that I had to take it. I just felt, ‘Alright, you gonna give me $200,000 for something I was going to give for free? [laughs] Here, take it.’ So I took that. And of course the company that gets it is going to treat it like it’s an album. They are going to try to make some money off of it. But this was just a mixtape project.”

Perfect timing for this classic :wow:

So many bangers :wow:

So unexpected :wow: :wow:

I can't believe it's been 10 years :mjcry:

Probably the album that has gotten most constant spins since then :wow:

Even the first single was retarded :mjcry:

I was like "P really comin back!?!?" :mjcry::mjcry:

on the low, this was a pivotal record for P and the Mobb as a whole

After the G Unit extravaganza that was Blood Money :pdahellclean:
The Mobb were arguably at their lowest point :pwhitehat:
This album came out of nowhere

First thing I remember about it was the Mac 10 Handle video.

Pioneer :pdahellclean:perfectly profited off YouTube before anyone :psalute:
Add that to the list of shyt P did first :pdahell2:
Album is perfect start to finish :Pshades:
ALC laced the beats and P sounds great on them. :Pgroot:
@Billy Ocean @Illeye buckmatic @Demon @savoutch @TheDarceKnight @Walter H White @Asantehene @charmander @Columbo @Pinyapplesuckas @We Ready @Broke Wave @JuvenileHell @ISO @hustlemania @TEKBEATZ @SoulController @FreshAIG @That Singer Guy...

Yeah man, this really was special. If this never happened, we probably wouldn't have ALC lacing people with full albums. To add onto what you said, this was supposed to be a mixtape. Koch ended up wanting to do it as an album, Prodigy ran it by 50 Cent, and 50 gave him the green light to do it. Also, P wanted the project to be mostly Blaxploitation samples and gritty, simple loops. Songs like Mac 10 Handle, Return of the Mac, The Rotten Apple, Nickel and Nail, etc. Alchemist wanted to do some more soul chops on there, like Stuck To You, Stop Fronting, Bang on 'Em, etc. At first P didn't want to do as many of these, but P went along with the idea. Also, some of the joints recorded for Return of the Mac ended up on HNIC 2. Some examples are The Dough, Represent Me, Dirty New Yorker, and Veteran's Memorial Pt. 2.

Cool so I'm not crazy. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big fan of the sci-fI conspiracy stuff he was doing on HNIC 2 and Product of the 80s, but ROTM is like a masterpiece to me.

Imagine the dope blaxploitation concepts they could do for a ROTM anniversary reissue :wow:
