Great video of Delly in the pick and roll but all the action hedges on Lebron actually being a willing and active participant as a screener. IT in Boston was more than willing to pass the ball in pick and roll. Did that change? And why was Bron’s effort off the ball when IT got back so bad?
If you chalking it up to trust, again it’s mostly on Lebron because Kyrie and IT both excel in PnR even if they are more assertive in taking shots in the action.
I’m gonna not knock IT because Bron didn’t seem to wanna work with him on the court. Bron is all about control on the floor and who’s easier to control? Delly or IT?
LeBron is the real PGThis vid just proves it sucks trying to be a real PG with Lebron.
Bron’s style of play is definitelybecause homie is worthless on the court without the ball in his hands.
I thought Lebron could not play off the ball
But as always people do not watch games of Lebron trust you with the ball he will let you run plays
When Jose have the ball it’s no issue
When wade have the ball it’s no issue
It’s because Lebron himself is usually the best point on his teams
But it’s funny when Hill does this they will say it’s a super team![]()
na...I had posted these in and older thread when someone said lebron couldn't play off the ball
Lebron was a fantastic off-ball player with Miami too - Grantland had an entire article about it:
The Evolution of King James
These are the best point guards Lebron has played significant minutes with:
Kyrie - great, but not a great distributor
Delly - good for a backup, should not have been starting on a Finals team
Mario Chalmers - good for a backup, should not have been starting on a Finals team
Delonte West - good for a backup combo guard, really shouldn't have been a starting point guard
Mo Williams - off guard trapped in a point guard's body, in his first stint with the Cavs he had real trouble making good passes off the dribble
Old Eric Snow - old, slow, and could do little
Boobie Gibson - off guard trapped in a high school point guard's body, should not have been starting on a Finals team
Mike Bibby's corpse - ready to retire, should not have been starting on a Finals team
Deron Williams's corpse - ready to retire
Kyrie is a great ball player, but he'd get tunnel vision and look for his own shot a bit too much (notice that last year he took more shots and held the ball more per possession than Lebron did, and even this year in Boston he's close to being 3rd on his own team in assists even though he the point guard.
The narrative that Lebron marginalized good point guards was always ridiculous. WHO on that list did Lebron unfairly keep the ball away from?

Top of the key Delly-Lebron screen and roll, the roll man pushes up hard to cover Delly at the 3pt line, leaving an open rolling Lebron who lays it up for an easy 2
![]()
Delly-Lebron high pick and roll, defense hedges and promptly switches, leaving a rolling Lebron on a much smaller defender, able to use his strength to catch clean possession and throw the lob down

Delly Lebron high screen and roll, defense hedges, Delly threads the pass to a charging Lebron down the middle of the key, last line of defense big is caught having to respect Kevin Love in the corner, which causes the rotation and rim protection to be late

Delly-Lebron baseline high screen and roll, man defender gets caught on Lebron screen, roll man defender doesn't push up, waits to contain Delly drive, defensive switch occurs in this possession, Lebron is open on the roll for an easy jam to the hoop as the switched defender is behind and too slow to stop the drive. Poor defensive rotations by Hawks to protect the rim (Or lack thereof)

Delly-Lebron high pick and roll top of the 3, roll man hangs back and switches to contain the Delly Penetration as the ball defender gets caught in the ball screen, Lebron rolls to the hoop and catches an easy alley oop pass for 2 points

Lebron does a hand off to Delly from the middle going sideline, then Lebron sets a ball screen for Delly going back middle, the ball defender gets caught in a quality pick, and the roll man defender switches over to contain the Delly drive, who lobs the ball up for a rolling Lebron, who makes a bullet one hand pass to an open Love in the corner due to the weakside defense rotating over to cover the Lebron roll... Love drains the three... Perfect example of how Lebron still uses his dangerous passing and efficient scoring without having to shoot jump shots playing outside in as the ball handler all the time

- Great Delly-LeBron High PnR founded upon a great solid ball screen by LeBron , which got Delly's man defender caught, forcing Carroll to contain Delly's penetration, leading to an easy oop for a rolling LeBron... Threat of shooters on each side of the court... Deadly play; the Middle PnR with spread shooters
george hill is more like delly than he is to kyrie/isiah/mo williams, so yeah
IT and lebron actually wasn't that bad in the pnr
kyrie almost never passed in pnr with lebron
isiah isn't healthy/in full game shape....I can't really judge him because of that
