:comeon: tryin to be cute

cassettes had the opposite effect of how the majority listen to albums today

It's true. I saw this REAL good documentary on BBC once about the history of the long playing album (LP).

In the beginning LP's were a compilation of singles cause that's what the radio format was at the time. But as time progressed more and more bands and artists used the LP format to express themselves artistically because it offered a platform the 3-4 minute single did not. So what you got was different bands and shyt approaching the album as a single, long playing, cohesive experience. A complete work with a cinematic scope with a beginning, middle, and end. Sgt. Pepper, Dark Side Of The Moon, What's Goin On, etc...

But when tape cassette came along it changed the way ppl listened to music. People weren't bound to the vinyl experience anymore. They weren't forced to sit in one spot and listen to the LP from front to back anymore. With walkmans they could take their music on the go and they could dub their favorite songs off their favorite LP's onto a mix compilation. And so before you know it, the radio abandoned the album format and went back to the singles format. Look at Thriller... that was an album full of singles.

Then you had MTV and music videos and then you had artists even MORE SO making music with singles in mind cause they wanted to tailor their shyt for music videos.

itunes/internet killed the "ALBUM"

now its just a collection of songs that they hope to chart on itunes instead of making a cohesive piece of music..

that why GKMC gets so much praise.. its very rare for that reason alone

You should hear janelle album its the same.

Man just brillant music .

I hate the fact that so many of these artist get a fukking pass and keep making trash ass albums .

Now a days its almost like you have to dl the leak just to make sure the album is good.

shyt times are already hard who the fukk wants to spend 12 bucks on a album and be disappointed .

I am a staunch supporter of if it's good enough to download and KEEP then its good enough to pay for. I'm not even a Drake Stan like that and I've purchased all three of his albums off iTunes because the music was good enough to support. I buy TWO copies of every Nas album (one physical for the collection and one digital)

There's literally NO reason to not at least purchase the iTunes versions of your favorite rapper's album because for $13 bucks you usually get the album, bonus songs, and 1 or 2 music videos. Great deal

Support the artists brehs....

I buy anything I like

Last albums Ive bought off itunes are Take Care, Finally Rich, Long Liva Asap, Good Kid Maad City, Magna Carta Holy Grail, bought American Gangster recently years after i illegaly downloaded it :wow:, bought WTT , and thats what i can remember off top

I still have to buy NWTS..needa get that phsyical copy doe...standard edition doe..I need dat babyface Drake :wow:

But ya..if u enjoy show ya support..anything otherwise makes ya voice on hip hop unworthy to listen to and u only show that music should no longer be catered to you..and artists who make music catered to you wont monetarily feel that support and will have to make music that is no longer catered to you cuz u show em no love

It is what it is...if u aint paying...stop complainin :troll:

Eh, it's a slippery slope. I feel you but it's hard to get someone to pay for somethin they're accustomed to gettin for free. In this day and age ppl are used to downloading music for free.

If Twitter or FB started charging users a monthly fee... would you keep usin it? Or would you try and find a free alternative. Would you feel bad about "not supporting" the web developers who work hard to make those things a possibility?

Not tryna start a fight just askin.

I just wouldnt use their service :what:

If i can find another artist giving it for free then I'll listen..

But if Im gonna enjoy an artist's work who feels its worth ur monetary support than I would support....

U speak with ya money

Ya they are accustomed to gettin it free jus like 80's kids were accustomed to making 5 figure salaries in weeks time during the crack invasion...doesnt mean it should be justified

The negatives is that if u enjoy an artist yet refuse to support him by simply buying the album u enjoy than u basically tell the artist "hey we dnt like it change it up and cater to me until i do"...even tho u may like it unless the money is speakin it falls on deaf ears

Which is why if u aint paying for the music u enjoy..u have no right...none at all to speak on hip hop and how u want it to be period..

This is thing though, FB and Twitter STARTED off free. Music has NEVER been free. I know the internet provides easy access to leaks and all that but again, we're talking about artists who we CLAIM we like and want to hear more from but we won't actually PAY for it? That's stupid. If you like Drake and want to call yourself a fan and be all up in message boards going back and forth then you had better be ready to put your wallet where your mouth is and SUPPORT the man's artistic vision. I just wrote and posted a goddamn dissertation on the greatness of Nas's Hip Hop Is Dead album, now what kind of fraud would I be if I never actually financially supported the artist whose album I'm stanning? Same thing for Kendrick Lamar, it was a blessing that the man went platinum with such an excellent album, people actually SUPPORTED his artistic vision, and now he can make whatever type of music he wants. We should be doing that with ALL artists we want to see on these "best albums" lists or want to see win Grammy's. We the CONSUMER dictate what's hot and what's Poppin with OUR wallets and who we choose to support....

Or maybe the music industry can adapt it's business model to try and keep up with the times. A hustle's a hustle. If you're an artist and you're in this game for monetary gain, then find a new way to make that money. Or maybe they could lower the price of CD's to like five dollars a pop. Maybe that would get more ppl in the stores.

If the label heads were creative enough and innovative enough, they'd come up with new ways to squeeze money from the consumer. Maybe the retail album model is dead and it's time for them to explore new ventures.
