Curious if this Bill applies only to state funded schools (U of Illinois) or private (Northwestern) as well.

If I'm a hooper and I have an offer from Illinois and an offer from say Purdue, I'm taking that Purdue offer b/c why tf should I have to earn $30k/year less b/c of some fugazi Illinois rule.

If the NIL isn’t being paid directly by the school then none of that shyt should matter.

Why should an athlete have to pay his way because he makes money off sports but the kid from the rich family still gets the free ride? If they are gonna do this then no scholarships for anyone from a family making over 250k either.
Exactly that was my whole point. This is targeted specifically for black athletes and no black person should co-sign this. They already gotta pay taxes and now they gotta pay money back to the school who makes millions off them what sense does that make. So all the lesser revenue sports that don’t get paid which are dominated by white kids will get full rides while those black kids have to pay.

I would assume it’s capped out after the tuition is covered. I don’t believe these folks that bold to try and pull off basically robbing folks. They still on that bullshyt though

I initially thought the same thing as you, but this is the country of wage theft. They would absolutely slip that in especially since I read the full text and I can't find a term for $250k. Usually it's assumed per annum, but it doesn't have that, I've learned when there's omissions in contracts that's where the theft begins.

Maybe the term is in the original because this is an amendment, but still this sounds like some hasty ass hater shyt from a white dude mad and trying to get some Republican points. They always try to start passing off things as only hurting us.

Theres players turning down way more than $30k/yr to play at the school they like. John Mateer is rumored to be taking millions less to go to OU

Taking millions less is just dumb...

unless there's some guru there that's going to develop you into some 1st overall pick, you gotta take the money, especially if it's millions more.

hmm, would this cause you not to go to school in Illinois if you were an athlete?
If I'm a super senior transferring or a one and done, why would it matter? I'm only gonna be there for semester. If this is a problem, then you all take issue with the state of Missouri that only allows athletes to collect NIL while in HS if they commit to an in-state school. And let's not pretend SE Missouri St U is handing out even $50k deals
If the NIL isn’t being paid directly by the school then none of that shyt should matter.

Why should an athlete have to pay his way because he makes money off sports but the kid from the rich family still gets the free ride? If they are gonna do this then no scholarships for anyone from a family making over 250k either.

If that goes through then Northwestern football and Illinois/DePaul basketball might as well just pack it up.
but they are gonna start getting paid by the schools and schools are prepping to bring NIL collectives in house. And it ain't (necessarily) your families worth that's getting you into the school. YOu're merit is rewarded with that scholarship. Y'all sound like the folks that be out here saying "well if if wasn't for the (insert sport) program, you wouldn't even be in school." You know where athletes have to pay their own way to school and maybe get a slim percentage scholly? Ivy League programs and I don't see no one out here begging for them to get paid or get full ride scholarships.

I'm not against these kids getting what they deserve but where does the line get drawn? SCOTUS ruled that scholarships aren't proper compensation so if that's the case, why should schools extend them scholarships AND have to pay them way above what their actual market value is? Ain't no way y'all can sit here and say anyone in the VCU athletic department is worth $349,000 a year? But here we are :manny:

It’s my name my image and my likeness tho. This whole point is stupid. Do the colleges not make millions off of those kids? If they have to pay for college then colleges shouldn’t make any money off of them.
This makes zero sense. Any sort of research done where something of high economic viability is discovered, the student doesn't get the money from it. The school gets it because they own the IP. The researcher just gets more over time and the school gets less. They get paid a stipend in exchange (a shytty one at that). And yea it's your name, your image, and your likeness but no one gives a fukk about 5th yr senior Bigwhite2498 and the only reason you got eyes on is cause of who you play for if they're good enough. true your talent gets you paid but no one was actively seeking you out for the next level

These numbers are inflated as fukk. I wouldn't believe a majority of what's being reported unless it's actual verifiable public record.
