Not sure if it’s worth it if I plan to move in 10-15 years.

I won't do it nor have I thought about ever doing it. Not sure if it lowers the value of your house down the line but my guess is that it does. Not sure if folks want to have 10+ year old solar panels that will probably look antiquated as they get better with design. I think Tesla got it right trying to make solar shingles but even that I don't think I would consider it.

If you are planning to move in that 10 to 15 year window, it can still make sense, just depends how the system is structured and whether it adds resale value in your area.

I had the same hesitation because I did not see myself staying forever either, but after running numbers and installing through Wolf River Electric in North Dakota, I realized most of my payoff was in the first several years from incentives and lower bills.

When we refinanced, the appraiser even counted the system as an upgrade. Just make sure you own it, not lease it, that matters when selling.

They’re supposed to be cheaper now so it shouldn’t be that big a deal.

If you do it have a backup gas generator.
I think that's the way to do.
When it's not sunny, you have power.
When it is sunny you can use solar.

I had a sales guy come by trying gto sell me some but it was dependent on. Government rebate or a tax break or something but I first have to absorb the cost so I wasn't with it.

I just had a house built last year. I have had at least 4 different solar companies come by multiple times and I also balked at having to absorb the initial cost

Yeah, and when they came by Biden was president and I didn't feel comfortable. With the current administration I'm definitely not doing it.

The Truth
I just got into a contract with one

But I did investigate the company.. A+ reviews across the board and people on my neighborhood already have had them installed.

Basically what has convinced me is that the cost of electricity is going to go up everywhere now (especially with data centers like the one down the street from my spot now).

They’re basically saying my bill for the next 30 years is going to hover around $108.00.. never above that. $160.00 if I include a battery (which I can add on later).

I actually started going forward with it. My electricity bill for the past month was just below $200 and it’s just me living there alone. My roof is also less than a year old so I’ve been trying to find people to bounce the idea off of but no one I know has ever dealt with Solar.

The panels are the newer kind, virtually indestructible, and easier to maintenance. Been looking for a reason not to install it.

i have a system from 2018 that came with my house. Was a tesla lease but i refused to renew the lease. Fortunately, it's tesla so someone dropped the ball and didn't put a lien on the property so i was able to get in.

long story short i bought them out for $7k and i have had maybe 2 electric bills in the 6 years I've been living here.

highly recommended just make sure they do a good job with your roof. My house was built in 2016 so my roof was brand new pretty much when they installed. have an independent inspector verify their work. Shouldn't cost you more than $100 ask a real estate agent for that contact.
