I was born and raised in DC. I thought having more black teachers than white ones was normal

After moving around the world I realized how blessed I was

Hopefully if you have kids they'll get to experience the joy of teachers that look like them who also care about them

What you just described is one of the reasons why I've never wanted to have children.

As I grew and matured and look back and realize the white teachers that I had just taught me a bunch of lies (I grew up in the south). I'll be damned if a child of mine will have that type of teaching, some chains and cycles need to be broken.
