As a sad owner of an Xbox One I've been very curious to buying a PS4 online. The only thing that's holding me back is the backwards compatibility.
Why would the lack of backwards compatibility hold you back? The XBOX One is not backwards compatible.

Just get rid of that VCR and keep it moving.

Because I have an OG PS3 and I do actively use it (i was playing soul blade just yesterday and thought about playing through nba street vol.2 again :yeshrug:), I don't have much room to hook things up. I already got a 360 and a Xbox one along with my PC stuff and ps3 taking up crazy space.

They only did this the last year or so of the last generation and primarily because the PS2 was no longer in production and the sales number wasn't high enough to garner releasing it on its own. Only Xbots acted like there was a 50/50 split between PS2 and PS3 in those numbers.
They used it on the PSVita and PSP and PS3 with PS2. It allowed them to put out a larger number overall and masked the total number sold of both systems to hide direct comparisons. As the PS3 caught back up to the 360 they stopped doing it.
