The MMO genre is understandably reliant on combat for the most part, as everyone who’s familiar with this kind of games will be able to attest. Indie MMO Wander will defy this rock-solid norm by using non-combat, exploration based gameplay; we’ve reached out to the developers to learn more about this interesting project, and today we’re publishing a short snippet of our interview.
Wander is currently scheduled to be released on PC (Steam) and PlayStation 4, so we asked their opinion on Sony’s popular current gen console; it sounds like they enjoyed working with it so far.
They also confirmed their target resolution and frame rate for this version.
We love working on PS4. The control options are great and having a fixed system makes testing a lot easier. There are some challenges compared to PC, mostly involving paperwork but Sony are great to work with. Wander is a slow moving game, so better looks are more important than high frame rate for us, so it’s 1080P@30FPS.
The release date is currently scheduled for late April/early May; the devs wouldn’t comment on the likelihood of crossplay.
We’re aiming to release on Steam and PS4 in late April-early May, but that’s as specific as I can get at the moment!
We also inquired about the engine choice, which is somewhat unusual for an indie studio – Wander is powered by CryEngine.
It’s a great choice for producing a dense, beautiful rainforest. Rainforest are hard work for rendering. Obviously Unity and UE4 have some great advantages but so does CRYENGINE.
Check back tomorrow to learn more about this game.
