Uncertain grounds
I saw one that had an Asian woman talking about it. Essentially, she said she can not even think about things unless she actually says them. It seemed an impossibility to me, but that is what she said how her existence is. Kind of like her thinking and talking are linked, or she has to see it on paper when reading it.

For a person who does not experience life like that, I think I am just incapable of conceiving it well enough to understand how it actually works. I just can't empathize at all with it.

My mom constantly thinks out loud and it drives me absolutely insane

I think that may be one indicator, but plenty of people think out loud and still have an internal monologue. My wife is one. She has one, but she also has a propensity to think out loud when she is near those who are family or alone. In public, she keeps her thoughts to herself.

You can’t convince me a dude working as a wage slave struggling to pay their bills is having deep mental conversations in their heads, if so they’re definitely having the wrong conversation.
breh WHAT :what: what if that person was born into a shytty situation and it's gonna take a couple of years for them to work themselves out of it once they become adults? Your logic completely ignores growth and the accumulation of knowledge as basic human techniques to change their situations around

stuff doesn't happen instantly like that

the internet
i read a book about intraverts and extraverts that said extraverts have this thing where if they have a thought in their head, that one thought just repeats until they bounce that thought off of another person. Think about if you ever been out in public and some random person walks up to you trying to talk for some reason. Or the amount of people you see always on the phone, like muhfukka be at the grocery store on the phone for an hour straight babbling about nothing all loud with they homegirl.
hmmmm that makes sense.
ive always wondered about those people that talk on the phone till they arent even speaking words anymore to the person.

ends up like "yup, yup, sooooooo...."
and they keep talking :gucci:

Every time I see this subject come off my mind is blown...
...I almost still dont believe it.

means a good chunk of the population may be idiots that cant see/think beyond themselves

Just stop and think:

That voice in your head which you think is you is akin to a spiritual GPS, yes? How many times has it got you in some ish which seemed like a good idea at the moment thanks to its encouragement to action? You do what it says, life hands you the bill.

Just considering it from another perspective because every time we have this thread we have the same old replies about people without the voice being drones when it really does make far more sense for the flip to be accurate because they are the ones being spoon fed a script from within that commands their thoughts, deeds and actions. In that lens which one ticks the NPC box real quick?

Inner monologue = Ego = False Self in my head, check the previous comment:

Simply put most people have no idea or conception of their self beyond the ego and its incessant chatter for they live constantly in a reactive state of mind instead of placing that C where it needs to be and getting creative instead as the mindbody doesn't multitask ergo you're in ego mode or the alternative and seeing as the first is the default state it is something one must actively work to get out of and experience the familiar newness of the latter perspective. Most don't because either they don't know, don't show or don't care about whats going on under the hood.

Subvocal speech being broadcasted is another interesting take on this:

All in all its a fascinating topic but the fact that the same people are saying the same things in the same order as the last ten threads really adds credence to who is actually the NPC and who isn't, yes?

Prove you aren't. Show me you are the master of your awareness:

Clear your mind. Prove you have control and aren't a flesh puppet that dances on the strings of internal speakings you mistake as your own when in reality they are no such thing.

Internal dialogue is important IMO

Can't know yourself if you don't talk to yourself
Facts

That's literally just the first step and a LOT of people can get hung up on just getting comfortable being in their own heads for a bit. Can't just do that alone tho.

There needs to be a back and forth between Internal diaglouge and external actions for people to see objective results IMO. You can't just be a smart/stand-up person inside your head, gotta practice what your preach to yourself as well to figure out if you're full of shyt or not. Otherwise you are just gonna live that NPC/bystander life

The 2nd step is recording them, but society convinced entire generations of people that writing these thoughts out on paper to reflect on later was p*ssy behavior :mjlol: but we wonder why everyone walking around all depressed and underacheiving mentally/emotionally/physically

You as an adult should be researching/working on your master's degree in YOU

-what your current patterns are and what kinda of results they yield in your life, how to control them to get the life you want

-the super specific nuances of why you even like or dislike things

knowing shyt like that will give you more direction in life than anything else IMO

What if the opposite was true and the ones with internal dialogue are actually the NPCs?

Makes sense if you consider the nature of scripted responses/routines etc whereas being "empty minded" is the state pretty much all spiritual traditions aspire toward...
yea I have one but I think people without one are better off and have a superior mind

do you really think Lebron or Kobe have voice in their head telling them to shoot?
they just pull the trigger

Thats exactly it.

The full scene above starts with "I see your talents have gone beyond the mere physical level, your skills are now at the point of spiritual insight" and that completely vibes with my own experience as there is an obvious and palpable shift when you leap that fence you didn't know was penning in your awareness as it becomes a full body thing as opposed to mere words in your head commanding your actions to which you're actually reacting.

If you have a voice in your head telling you what to do and you can't control it or turn it off then who is the master? Who is the slave? What of the immense amount of energy expended and wasted in maintaining its incessant chatter?

Don't get me wrong, I have one but I have also experienced that total presence of silence and its a much, much higher state of awareness and I've come to believe this egoic state is a drain on our natural resources akin to making wheels spin but making no real progress.

Would be very interesting to see the same research done on pro athletes as I'd be willing to bet they don't think a thing but feel everything as that is the swiftest, most efficient possible reaction with no waste and full traction.

That said I'm also quite certain there are people walking around that are just empty vessels. Lights on but no Soul within, no deeper spiritual connection and they have no internal dialogue so its definitely a spectrum in that sense. Ironic.
