yo.. that's the shyt that gets me. you have some people all comfortable, with the ability to get the fukk out of there and they don't want to be. they want to stay in that shyt. they talking about like it's "their" home when it belongs to the federal government. as soon as HOPE VI and HUD decides to tear that shyt down, they HAVE to leave. what annoys me is how folks try to protest when the federal government decides to tear it's housing down and the same folks that spent all their fukking lives there, all comfortable not willing to move out, generations in talking all protesting. WTF, man. i also hate it when you have some folks all comfortable about living in section 8 as if that shyt is supposed to be nice and acting like... "i'm gonna stay here and not move out". what????? i actually had one person awhile back talk to me about how i should apply to section 8, apply for assistance and get extra comfortable like i can live off the government. NO.... that's NOT cool. i would apply if i needed it or had to go to that route but the way she made it sound with the helpless attitude like i'm willing to settle or let someone else take care of me for the rest of my life or not be willing to be independent or whatever. that scared the shyt out of me.

man, i understand those people that are down on their luck and are unfortunately, stuck in that position where they need it BUT it's never an okay idea to be comfortable with a damn hand out IF YOU CAN GET YOUR OWN shyt OR TO STRIVE FOR YOUR OWN shyt WHERE YOU CAN GET YOUR OWN PLACE. IT SHOULD BE A GOAL OR A fukkING DREAM TO OWN YOUR OWN HOME. NOT DWELL IN A fukkING HOUSING PROJECT FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE AND BASICALLY DIGGING A HOLE FOR YOURSELF THAT YOU CAN'T GET OUT OF.

PREACH!

I watched that whole movie on the first page about the welfare office and it was crazy how soooooooo many people just showed up thinking that they would get $$$ THAT DAY and how rude people got when their needs didnt get immediately taken care of. But the people working in these offices were on auto pilot and seemed like they would give people the run around on everything. Go to this office, go to that building downtown. Pure madness. I applaud some workers for being patient and getting shyt done back when computers where virtually non-existent (but still part of the equation). ALso, it looked VERY EASY to commit some serious welfare/SS fraud back then.

On the flipside, this generation welfare stuff is insane. And as adult you start to see why people bug out about having to pay taxes and subsidize other people's lives (LITERALLY) and those folks are working, living in public housing and not appearing to be working towards getting jobs. You get your check and see how many pieces it gets chopped into before you get your final cut. Its wack. Just bothers me that in like 50-60 years there hasnt been some serious welfare reform. Like, there should be a max on public housing; 3-4 years at a max and you gotta move the F out. None of this staying around for 29 years shyt and then passing the crib down to your fam like its a house you own. And when it comes to the actual $$ benefits, the benefits should actually DECREASE within this 3-4 year period REGARDLESS of how many kids you have. Stop fukkin and start job hunting. Cant feed yourself and them 3 kids on $300 a month in food stamps? Them get behind a keyboard and start making some beats.

Bugged out that people can have no shame in feasting off your/my dime and collect them checks but turn their nose up to some low level ass job that should be used as a method of paying dues so they can lift themselves up.

This is 1963. Theres not excuse to not acquire the tools that can get you some knowledge thats needed to get a decent job. You can learn so much without stepping foot in a classroom, that its crazy. Even colleges are giving out some of their courses on iTunes for free. And the library has been FREE since forever. Post up in there and learn some shyt. Learn real estate codes/statutes, learn the kind of shyt that can help you pass a civil servant exam.

Folks are enamored with being lazy because being a bum ass bum is a mentality passed down from generation to generation and theres very little penalty for being complacent and a fukk up. Its wack that a project being a complete war zone and literally crumbling is what prompts come cities to finally get around to tearing down these buildings, but it isnt enough because the busted ass mentality just goes to another area.

Man, we are doomed.

I hear what you're saying but their are underlying issues that must be clarified or addressed before we can attribute these behaviors to internal factors. You're completely ignoring situational factors that play a part in human behavior and social psychologists like to call this the Fundamental Attribution Error. Its easy for us to tell someone to get an education , or go get a job , but you know you are who you associate with. If a young lady is raised by a Mother and family that has instilled certain values in her like --her philoprogenitiveness can be used for financial gain-- who is going to teach her differently? She goes to school and these values are reinforced , and again on the TV/radio. You speak on welfare reform and a public housing max time-frame but I dont think you want those problems. There should be a war on poverty.. All this shyt seems like a great idea when you're doing well for yourself , but the minute you meet calamity head on I'm sure your opinion will change.

Furthermore , address black nihilism before you address" laziness". Many of our people have whats called an external locus of control. This is the belief that what happens in life is caused by external factors. When you think like this the next step is learned helplessness , of course. How often have you heard the expression "its all in Gods hands".. this implies that we are not the authors of our own destiny.

that's basically what we're saying. we're NOT saying that it's completely their fault. what we're saying is that they learned that type of thinking and are made to feel that it's acceptable when it's NOT. yeah, the system was set up to make those people that are dependent on it to be a certain way and it was also enforced too. this goes way back into the 50s, 60s, as i said before, there were people from the housing authority that made sure that the father of the kids were NOT in the household in order to keep their section 8 apartment. they also had to have a certain number of kids in order to keep receiving public assistance and benefits. basically, the policies that were established for the welfare systems were to keep the recipients helpless where they were basically trapped in that position where they couldn't get out of poverty. in most of the inner city areas, the educational system was poor so they basically couldn't receive an education. the kids basically grow seeing this shyt and they repeat the cycle because there's nothing to help them get out of that shyt either. i'm well aware of that. then it turned into a generational thing when it shouldn't have been like that. it became a mentality unfortunately. a syndrome where there's many people who are able bodied physically and mentally that are dependent on public welfare chose to rely on it indefinitely instead of using it as a means of temporary assistance while working their way up out of it where they can basically survive on their own.

however, the ONLY way to work around that is to basically stop that mentality by reminding those people that the projects and public assistance is supposed to be TEMPORARY until they're able to pull themselves up. of course, those that don't have it are going to need help unless they are in a situation which would make it difficult or impossible for them to do then that's another story.

but even that, i understand the government is still a part of the blame because they're not giving those in poverty the tools to basically better themselves such as poor education and etc.

however, it's NOT the responsibility of the government to make someone want to help themselves out of a situation if the tools are right in front of them. a part of surviving is learning how to do shyt for yourself.
