Rapping the verse in one take requires rappers to get better breath control if they want to rap faster or tackle more difficult flows. And it keeps them on topic. I can hear all the punches on most new rap, combined with the perfectly quantized fl studio hi hats it sounds so robotic and forced.

They were punching in since the golden era Bro.

Big Punisher is all punch in's and that was documented in the Fredro Starr 'The art of dialgoue' Interview.

Biggie punched in too, I saw Wayne punch in for some Carter documentary, There are very few Jadakiss's one take one shot type dudes.

You are right though. I feel if you dont have the skills to go at least 8-12 bars before you break then you should not be no type of Rapper at all.

I wonder how they do shows. I like Maxo
Kream but dude is notorious with that shyt lol. Do he even do concerts? I’m like how does a punch in rapper sound in a live concert.

EDIT: found his rolling loud set.

He has a back track :scust: and there’s a lot of him dropping the mic so he can catch his breath. That has to be a crazy sounding live show smh

Bizzy Bone can rap all his verses live because if you listen close they write their verses with a spot to breathe, but also have insane breathe control. Outkast said they used to rap on a treadmill to get their breathe control up. Slow rappers like Biggie can punch in because the words don't overlap so it sounds natural. But punching in with a fast triplet flow just sounds horrible.

They punch because some people care more about flow.

These new rappers ain’t taking the time to write their lyrics down anymore. It’s basically like Young Thug where he basically freestyles a few bars at a time then punch in the next.

Songs these days are 12 bars, hook, 12 bars, hook

Not all the time but I've spotted a couple punch ins on OB4CL

Let's hope so. :russ:

I give Rae extra props for being able to do all this acapella or in a cypher type Rapper. Like OP said punch-ins are not a good look.

If you remember the Lil Wayne Carter Documentary where he got a mic from his luggage and starting recording. He spit 2 bars and said cut!! :russ:
