The Clipse never sold anything close to platinum.
Which is why their label dropped them, and they had to make the whole Re-Up Gang Mixtape series in the first place.
This is what motivated Kanye, a nikka that had been a fan of the Clipse and the Re-Up Gang mixtapes, to try and resurrect his career.
And even with the Kanye cosign, Push's album still went double wood.
This is the reason why Push is so mad at nikkas like Drake.
He's respected amongst internet fans and Hip Hop purists, but that respect has never translated to real world sales.
He thought that if he continued to spit those fabricated dope boy raps better than anybody else that would make him a star.
When it didn't, he got mad at the nikka that was more famous than him while doing the same shyt (Wayne), and the other suburban nikka that rapped about his real life and got more famous than him (Drake).
you really have zero knowledge of this story... you making yourself look stupid
if push wanted to be drake and wayne, he'd be asking for ye and neptunes to give him those pop records time after time. have you ever seen pusha, push a pop single? when has he actually tried to blow? when was he making lead singles as club bangers and girl records? nobody tries to blow being a coke rapper.. even the ones you bout to name, blew cause they made radio hits and songs for women... the coke raps didn't do it for them
if anything he'd be mad at jeezy or ross.. who took that style to millions... but he aint.
THIS IS WHAT STARTED IT... and it was No Malice who started it... not push.. and it was wayne who admitted he copied it from pharrell then dissed him.. everything after that was collateral damage. push got in it cause that's his man and his brother.... drake got thrown in cause wayne... shyt gillie was going against wayne and ab liva is with major figgas AND re-up gang..
this was crew beef from jump that trickled into being the only two left of the crews... push and drake.. nobody care what wayne nor malice gotta say anymore on the subject.. jabs and slights been thrown from both sides the whole time. drake been throwing them, push been throwing them
wasn't shyt about record sales and wanting to be a star
2006: Clipse vs. Lil Wayne
In 2006, Lil Wayne was the
cover star of
Vibe magazine’s April issue, clad in the popular streetwear brand BAPE, which at the time grew in popularity thanks to Pharrell Williams and was worn a lot by Clipse. The Virginia-bred duo wasn’t too fond of Wayne wearing the brand and released “Mr. Me Too” -- produced by Pharrell -- in which No Malice rapped, “Wanna know the time? Better clock us/ N---as bite the style from the shoes to the watches.”
That same year, Wayne sat down for an
interview with
Complex and addressed Clipse’s subliminal diss. “You talking to the best. Talk to me like you’re talking to the best. I don’t see no fukkin’ Clipse. Come on man,” Wayne said. “Weezy, man. They had to do a song with us to get hot, B. 'What Happened to That Boy?' C’mon, B.”
Wayne even called out Pharrell, saying, “Who the fukk is Pharrell? Do you really respect him? That n---a wore BAPEs and y’all thought he was weird. I wore it and y’all thought it was hot.”
