Like Picasso growing bored of paint, Pusha T says that diss tracks are “dead to me.”

In a new interview with Consequence, the L. Ron Hubbard of the cupboard explains that “it’s not the same ransom anymore. Back in the day, to me, I felt like it could be career ending. Now it’s not — it doesn’t hold as much weight. You still get another shot at it, it seems like.

“I’ve kind of been through that chapter and I’m over it,” he continues. “I’m somewhere right now where I don’t even want to make music with other people, nevertheless [have] anybody else in my music or be the focus of my music. What we’re doing right here [with Clipse] is, to me, so next level. I feel like the taste level is above everything else. Even being caught up in the world of it — I don’t like even the world of the people, of the back and forth — if I don’t see eye to eye with you, there’s probably things I don’t want to be there about, you know what I’m saying?”

During our interview Malice, his brother and partner in Clipse, backs him up with a reference to one of JAY-Z’s most iconic diss tracks, “Takeover.” He raps, “A wise man once told me, ‘Don’t argue with fools/ ‘Cause people from a distance can’t tell who is who.'”

Pusha T is responsible for some of the most unforgettable diss tracks never to have been performed at the Super Bowl, including “The Story of Adidon,” which put Drake through the ringer; the new Clipse bangers “So Be It,” which rags on Travis Scott, and “Chains and Whips,” which takes shots at Drake’s pal Jim Jones; and a lengthy discography of attacks on Lil Wayne.

But now, according to cocaine’s Dr. Seuss, “It’s kind of dead to me. It’s the ransom of what a diss track used to bring: There was a clear winner. Somebody would really bow out and then that’s it — the last man standing. Now it’s just a whole bunch of noise. Even after we find winners, it’s still noise. And it’s like, man, then what’s it for?”

Check back next week for more from our interview with Clipse. In the meantime, catch the hip-hop legends (more than once) on our list of 200 Best Songs of 2025, re-read our review of Let God Sort Em Out, and see where that project lands on our list of 50 Best Albums of 2025.

He’s right. There’s no consequence to anything anymore. Folks get exposed for snitching, having ghostwriters, and other things that would have once gotten you banished…and still have a platform and thriving careers.

What’s the purpose of putting your concentration into lyrically dismantling someone, digging up dirt to destroy credibility, etc.?

The art of dissing on wax is pretty much dead

I applaud Kendrick and Drake for their back and forth that everyone else tried to jump in on but aside from that, rap is a popularity contest

You see rappers doing more IG rants and memes than going in the booth and if you aren't as popular as the artist you targeting, you already lost. It ain't about who rap better than who when it's an A list artist versus a B or C one

There are few rappers that ever got their careers ended by a diss song.

I get what he’s saying; you would think revealing a bunch of information about someone would effect their career negatively but it’s about timing and circumstance.

Dissing someone with a huge fanbase like Drake Kanye or Travis won’t end their careers because they have a cult following who won’t ever move on from them. It’s better to diss someone when their careers are just getting started/still on the come up.

We’re also in the era where people are shameless and don’t care about morals and integrity.

No one of value, especially recently. Even if we look at the history of rap, who are the rappers who's careers were ended? Ja? Canibus (debatable if the diss did it)? Jay-z is the wealthiest person in hip hop. At best, dissing can revive/expand the "winner's" career.

Diss tracks ain’t been shyt but almost purely publicity stunts and marketing angles exclusively since at least 50 Cent blew up…Pusha using it as a gimmick for roll outs stretching back decades and as recently as a couple months ago, and now announcing that it’s dead to him is :mjlol:…oh word, after 20 years you’re tired of dissing nikkas for clout…good for you i guess

Diss songs will always be here but the aura of it or who puts them out won’t be the same. Rappers are scared to lose and compete too. Some pick and choose who to go after. Plus labels might be pulling strings who gets more publicity.

His lyrics are ineffective and unbelievable

No surprise he’s given up..he was a glorified chatty patty :dead:

You have 50 thousand posts across the past decade plus (on this board alone, im sure you post elsewhere) about a Canadien, half-CAC, tiny hat wearing, French porn star impregnating, nail painting pedophile you have never and will never meet. But Push is a chatty patty.

Commit that, disrespectfully:huhldup:
