That's like telling a new basketball fan not to bother because they missed MJ, Magic and Bird. How could they possibly enjoy Curry, LeBron, Durant and Westbrook? :childplease:

Right now we have Trout, Miggy, Altuve, Betts, Harper, Bogaerts, Machado, Donaldson, Correa, Cespedes, Bryant, Rizzo, Posey, Goldschmidt, Kershaw, Sale, deGrom, Verlander, Felix, Thor, Strasburg, Bumgarner, etc., etc. Every era has great players.

I agree that baseball is atrocious at promoting its stars. It's pitiful really and it's a big reason the national following isn't what it used to be. Guys like Trout should be a household name.

I was going to post the exact same thing. Especially the fact that the art of pitching has reached a level that no one could have ever imagined. They out here breaking the laws of physics. I mean doing shyt that was considered super human 20 years ago. PEDs aint gonna help you throw a filthy slider

And you did notice I didnt' mention basketball- you did. The NFL and NBA makes new memories every season and promotes its stars while baseball forces you to remember its past. You can't compare the two. And I agree with the younger stars you just mentioned in baseball but again I don't know if I could 'turn someone on to the game' with these players. Pitchers only pitch once every five games, Harper gets walked alot, The Angels aren't winning so you rarely hear about Trout, Cespedes is on a new team every season, Sale is a headcase, Kershaw might be done for the season, Does Correa even get love in Houston, etc, etc. You love the game and are knowledgeable which is cool but I don't see how that translates to getting someone new to watch the game out of the blue. just my opinion

-plus the #1 one rule should be is that they have to go to some live games first of all. Can't see them getting turned on to the game just off watching it on tv. Maybe years ago yeah but not in this era imo

This has been a rough sports summer and I need a fix. My dad and brother are into baseball heavy so I want to see what they see in the game. So help me understand the subtle things I should look for and the things that will keep me into the game. Also help me pick a team I would be a braves fan but we ass at the moment. :manny:

I need help with positions, rotations and the bullpen. Stats also?

first you gotta appreciate the game
appreciate how hard is it to hit a 90+mph ball
appreciate how the beauty of a double play and how it kills the momentum for the offense
appreciate an outfielder throwing out a fukkboy who thinks he can tag up on 3rd base and reach home plate
appreciate those motherfukkers who can steal bases with ease and have the balls to steal home plate
and appreciate the catchers who can throw them out
appreciate the unpredictability of every play, to this day I see things in baseball I have never seen before in a baseball game, it's kind of crazy, there are endless amount of plays

as for a team, where are you from?
true, braves do suck right now
personally the pirates are an awesome team, they have a lot of black players too, most black team in the MLB
or just root for the yankees, the evil empire as they say
astros would be a good team for you too, down south and they're a great young team who will be good for a while

if you are really serious about learning baseball I suggest the book 'baseball for dummies by joe morgan'.. great book and you'll learn everything you need to know

Honestly if you didnt grow up playing or watching it, then baseball would be boring to the casual fan and I don't even blame them for feeling that away..
At the same time I could never get into soccer aka futbol no matter how hard I try

I want to get into it more, but I just can't with the game lengths and general slow pace.

Can we get some changes to speed the shyt up?
  • Cut it to 7 innings
  • 15 second pitch/hit count. If pitcher isn't ready by then issue a ball, if batter isn't ready issue a strike
  • Limit the amount of 3-2 foul balls to one. If the batter hits more than one, issue a strike. Not trying to sit up here and see a batter hit five foul balls in a row.
If changes such as these were implemented to speed up the game, then I'd probably watch more. But they won't so fukk it...

Love watching this nikka pitch

I highly recommend this documentary to anyone considering getting into watching baseball:

I grew up watching and playing baseball as a kid but I watched this documentary at the crib with a ting a few weeks ago and her not being a baseball fan but a fan of sports really appreciated baseball. After learning more about its history and some of its players and the significance of certain nuances of the game, she enjoys and appreciates the game more. The documentary is pretty informative and breaks down things the casual viewer of the sport may not understand or care about without proper context of what it all means.
