This has been a rough sports summer and I need a fix. My dad and brother are into baseball heavy so I want to see what they see in the game. So help me understand the subtle things I should look for and the things that will keep me into the game. Also help me pick a team I would be a braves fan but we ass at the moment. :manny:

I need help with positions, rotations and the bullpen. Stats also?
What's your nationality?

Baseball rules aren't complex.
But the scenarios that players have to do before each pitch ARE complex.

That's the part the casual fan doesn't understand.
They just see people standing around. But man on 1st and 2nd...line drive hit to center...who covers 2nd? Who's the cutoff man? What if there's a double steal? What if he bunts? And so on.
All these little things have to get processed by every position player before every single pitch depending on where the ball is hit, or not hit...what kind of hit (pop up, line drive, grounder...)

It's a way more cerebral game than people think.

I also think following along like a manager thinking about when you should take a pitcher out or when to pinch hit someone is one of the beauties of the game as a fan

Baseball is a great sport

The issue is that the season is so long that MLB rarely ever gives the general public urgency

- buy a ticket to a regular season game

- buy a beer

- then find the women in the stands

Man if you didn't watch the game 6 to 13 years ago forget about it. Stick to basketball, football, soccer, or whatever. Baseball is all about nostalgia and not to mention you missed out on some nice players and eras. There's no need for you to get into it now imo
Don't listen to this nonsense. There are A LOT of young stars coming into their own and on the horizon, plus plenty of legends still in their prime or just past it. Besides watching games, watch MLB Network during the afternoon. They have GREAT programming and discussion that goes into all the little details about the game. Would be a great place to start picking up knowledge on baseball @Prynce

How is he going to really truly get into let alone love the game if he, at worst, never even saw the the Sosa/McGwuire home run battle years ago?? Let alone watching Ken Griffey Jr, Bonds, Hating the Yankees era, The Big Hurt, The Bash Bros, A young Jeter, young ARod, etc. Yeah The MLB Network is dope but its the actual games that have to suck him in. Me personally I can watch the games cause I've watched baseball damn near since birth and I attend 2-3 games a year.. but its not about what we like, the subject is "turning on someone new to the game" and I don't see how you do that with today's button down- hidden rules, Latino(no offense). plus the league doesn't promote its stars really. That's just my opinion :ehh:

-on a side note Puig was supposed to the be dude that pulled the hood back into the game and we all see how his career is going. Not saying he's done but its been a huge disappointment with dude

Thinking about the Yankees cause of the history

Not knocking your choice, but consider this. There isn't a salary cap in baseball, so teams are able to basically buy championships. Thats the Yankees. Fat Wallet team.

But you also got teams with a strong system in place that doesn't need to buy players. They have a farm system that drafts young players, develop: them in the minors and then they show out MLB.

The Cardinals and Pirates are the best example of that. Personally, I think if your new fan. These are 2 really good teams to follow.

I'll go more in detail later, on my lunch break.

:childplease: :childplease: :childplease:

That's like telling a new basketball fan not to bother because they missed MJ, Magic and Bird. How could they possibly enjoy Curry, LeBron, Durant and Westbrook? :childplease:

Right now we have Trout, Miggy, Altuve, Betts, Harper, Bogaerts, Machado, Donaldson, Correa, Cespedes, Bryant, Rizzo, Posey, Goldschmidt, Kershaw, Sale, deGrom, Verlander, Felix, Thor, Strasburg, Bumgarner, etc., etc. Every era has great players.

I agree that baseball is atrocious at promoting its stars. It's pitiful really and it's a big reason the national following isn't what it used to be. Guys like Trout should be a household name.
