I respect Cole as a man and like some of his messages but this remains my view of him as an artist
Why is JCole mediocre?

What exactly is he great at? Nas and Andre 3000 are great at evocative, "project window" type lyricism. Hov has a great, dynamic flow. Ghostface is a great storyteller. Scarface has great delivery and thought provoking lyrics. What's Cole's strength? He dabbles quite a bit in punchline raps but is too corny to be great at it. His storytelling is very non personal and colorless. His flow is fine.

He's Joey Badass with a Roc Chain

I'll say it again, that Hov co-sign did more for his career than he ever did.
:russ::mjlol::lolbron: stop smoking rocks. Cole carried his own career damn near perfectly. Jay ain't hands on wit him, u dudes are way out of touch. Cole has a huge part if his fanbase that's not even fans of Jay.

Cole built his fanbase of a strong connection wit his fans, great music. Dudes knows how to connect with is fanbase and pull them in like no other in this generations.

Another thing I dislike: Cole has arguably the worst album collection of any new-ish rapper we're supposed to respect. His first album is straight up bad, lyrically as well as production. Born Sinner is a bit more ambitious in a "more instruments" way but overall is a forgettable album. Meanwhile FHD is a solid album that also suffers from him once again trying to make his own version of [insert something Kanye did]. For instance the last song on the album is his Last Call.

For comparison Drake's first album is bad, and his latest album is weak...but he has some solid to good albums in between. Kendrick has two great albums. Joey Badass' debut album is solid. On the gangsta side of things Freddie Gibbs has a couple really good albums and YG's debut is great. Even Wale has better albums than Cole.

Cole even admits he fukked up with the first two albums on The Combat Jack Show.

you must be smoking something stronger than rocks the way you're gymnasting

It's hilarious watching some of y'all pretend like Jay-Z didn't have a monumental impact on dude's career.

So we are going to just ignore how dope Friday Night Lights was?

Sideline Story 3.5/5
Born Sinner 4/5
2014 FHD 4.5/5

Not to mention

The Warm Up 5/5
Friday Night Lights 5/5

The 3rd verse on runaway invalidates this critique.

It's funny this is the critique coming from a Kendrick Stan. He's much more "mediocre" according to the standards you put forth.

Out of all you named YG and Kendric are the only ones with an album that's not a weed plate.

Here's the question: who else had a bigger ROC nation push than J Cole?

Look at this timeline on wiki:

J Cole was THE first artist I ever heard associated with Roc Nation.

It says 2009. Knowing hip hop ducktales, dude was probably signed well before then.

Jay Elec and Willow were their next acts. And they blew up considering their weak non-existent body of work and connections to Jay
It's a trick question. The answer is nobody. No one has been pushed as hard and as long as J Cole has
nikka..... these people were known well before roc nation and half of them you mentioned are only managed by the roc not signed to them you dumb fukk. stop acting like you know it all. nikka said ducktales like he's some industry insider :mjlol:
