Without the aircraft carrier, the US Military has no substantial edge over most countries. At a cost of $4.5 billion each, the ten nuclear powered Nimitz class carriers within our fleet, give Washington the ability to project its power to any coastal nation on the planet at a moments notice.
Without these vessels, the United States military would still be formidable, but it wouldn’t be the world-class offensive force that has dominated this planet since the end of the Cold War. There would be plenty of countries out there that our government would no longer be able to strike with impunity. Alternatively, there may be plenty of countries that can, or will soon be able to effectively counter our aircraft carriers.
At least, that’s what a national security think tank known as the Center for a New American Security seems to believe. They won’t come out and say it in plain English, but in a recent report they admitted that our aircraft carriers are basically obsolete. They simply don’t stack up to the defensive capabilities of countries like China…

There are no ongoing threads about any other countries. There were TWO here at one point. TIME Magazine is not colluding with the DNC to push any other countries as our existential enemies. did you read what you posted? without them we have no substantial edge on other nations, but yet they are useless because maybe sometime in the future other nations will develop something that will counter it while we stand still and do nothing apparently. they'll have the money to innovate but our money will somehow cause us to stagnate?
and the aircraft carrier is about projecting power ... having floating military bases all over the damn ocean, just like we have actual military bases surrounding these other countries. it's certainly not for war with china or russia because i hope you all know that we're not getting involved in a hot war with countries that have nuclear weapons. the latest greatest sub can't carry 75 fighter jets, but then again i guess those are obsolete too. they serve a purpose and that purpose isn't obsolete.
oh and don't worry russia or china isn't any danger and neither is the US. be worried when someone develops a fully functional comprehensive missile defense shield. then you'll get your hot wars between world powers.
