As far as the thread itself, young people take criticism as throwing their entire generation under the bus. I could (not that I am) say that every song posted is awful. I could shyt on 20 more "new" rappers.

We come from an era when you could flat out say "this is wack as fukk" and nobody thought anything of it. For our own generation. So we aren't gonna sugarcoat our opinions of new music.

Fred.

Breh, I remember saying Biggie was wack as fukk (Biggie, one of the greatest rappers ever) when my boy first played him in 97. Nobody caught feelings. I flat out said "I don't like this champagne sippin RnB bullshyt" ("Hypnotize" was big then. My breh was playing One More Chance and Big Poppa - I thought the shyt was corny). Then I heard the Premo joints and my view changed. Over time, I understood Big's approach and it all clicked.

The idea that you have to sugarcoat your thoughts in hip hop is so foreign to me. I'll never get used to that.

Like I said

Chainz
Wayne
Ross
Jeezy
Game
50

All of last decades heavy hitters look flabby trying to keep up with 20 somethings

My point is clear and still defines the genre. This a genre by the young for the young...

The genre is 40 fukking years old breh.

Enjoy and take a part in? Definitely. Claim as their shyt? It's impossible. That is the root of the problem. What other genre of music in history can you name that's been around 4 decades with minimal changes, that young people try to claim as their own?

It doesn't happen. Every generation except the current one had their own shyt.

60's had doo wop, Motown and psychedelic rock....70's had disco, soul, funk and classic rock....80's and 90's had hip-hop and contemporary R&B....and then there's a big ass gap because young people are trying to claim a genre that started in the late 70's.

It would be like if 90's kids were trying to claim disco. shyt is too silly to even contemplate.

And them dudes look silly because they're trying to cater to kids. Which is another problem. Cube wrote "Death Certificate" when he was 21. Future is in his 30's rapping like he's 18. Regardless of whether or not you like his music....adults nowadays are rapping down to kids, instead of kids rapping up to adults.

And as far as Pac, dude would be pushing 50. He probably wouldn't be rapping at all any more, and definitely not with none of these new dudes because they're talking about the same shyt he was 20 years ago. Only now he's like 45. shyt would be embarrassing.

yall can argue this all day, but bottom line is a lot of us older cats like some of the new stuff, but there is a lot of garbage out there and the age thing is right. Why rappers old as hell now? That used to be R&B's role. Even 20s is old by historical rap standards. Where the teenage hittaz at? I think it was Leon Sylvers talkin about how young they used to be in the Soul Music game, and how he saw that energy pass on to hip-hop. Now its not there.

Thank you, it took me hella long to write that verse but it remains one of my favorites lol.

"City of Jordans and Nikes,
It's soles on the pavement, its soles in the sky
hanging from laces like ropes that were tied
hanging black faces from oaks in the South
They kicked and they cried to the Lord for deliverance
as if it's umbilical cords they were lynched with
suspended in-vitro, aborted by Christian
intentions so evil they scorch crucifixes
it's senseless, my people the orphans of pigment
forgetting the soil while they tending the soil
ain't that a bytch? I got friends in the soil
gangstas and pimps get a yield from this soil
making a grip in the fields where the oil be
spraying, no wells but it's Shells on the corner
no pumps but them sellers got gas for informers
and tasks for the coroner, the task and the lawyer
the taxes enormous in fact it'll forfeit
the vast of the poorest, these public pretenders
gon ask for the lowest but fukk the defense up
at maximum moments, fukk up get sent up
The path of Exodus, slaves of the state
that done massacred Moses, Martin and Malcolm
assassins of hope, they armed to the talons
with packs of the dope, American Eagle
that's national coke, them Mexican seagulls
gon land in the coast, American evil
Demand em in bulk, fukk a van need a boat,
cause the Man in the van busy
tapping the phones, tryna track what he sold
he gon jack you then trap you with
trafficking blow, Uncle Sam getting dough,
he done taxed nikkas broke"
