Python is also heavily used in ML and Data Science along side R.

I've been putting in work to reach a more advanced level of python development because I think I want to pivot away from system architecture and take a comfy gig doing automation and DevOps and spin that into some personal consulting.

did it ever ..?

Java
Python
Kotlin
Those crappy webby stacks
R
Something functional?
C/C++?
Swift?

.....

c#
I do not know much about languages and in my field (architecture/BIM), it seems knowing and being proefficient in C# would be more beneficial because the main software is built on .NET. Web stuff or data science is not what Im looking for.

Revit from Autodesk. My question would be mainly if skills in c# could be useful elsewhere.

Yes they could be but it depends on what you want to do. c# runs primarily on windows and desktops,.

Java is more for enterprise software.

In 2020 you are probably better off with Java or some web dev stack along with some scripting (python, some shell) but it depends on a lot of factors including previous exposure, what type of work you want to do, connections and work history.

IT developed with pure principles of simplicity, cooperation, elegance, openness, logic, using tech to improve society and even "beauty". Because I still think these things are important personally I prefer not to work with Microsoft products or technologies.

"Simplicity is prerequisite for reliability."

"The use of COBOL cripples the mind; it's teaching should, therefore, be regarded as a criminal offense."

"Computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes."

"Elegance is not a dispensable luxury but a factor that decides between success and failure."

It depends on what your goal is. In terms of getting a job where you'll primarily be writing C# code, it makes sense. There's plenty of companies where C#/.NET is a primary part of their tech stack. Not as many positions as are available for someone who knows Java, but still plenty.

Both Java and C# are heavily used by enterprise companies. So if the kind of companies you'd be interested in are more start-up type companies or companies that seem heavily influenced by Silicon Valley, then C# might not be the best bet.

But again, it all depends on what you're looking to learn it for.

I inherited a Ruby codebase and I know why it's declined in popularity so much. I have a preference for Laravel and Vue. Can't stand React

Did PHP most of my career but got thrown into a Python project this year. After the initial hurdles and getting used to how strict it is vs PHP, I can see why

It depends on what industry your in and what type of business you're running. Aerospace and wall street won't touch python or typescript. Well maybe they'll touch typescript for a webapp but definitely not for a backend system.
