Man ppl missed out I swear. Tip kills it every week but this was special. Also shows how deep EWF's catalog is. It wasn't just September and the other hits people know. They got a long ass list of classic joints, deep cuts, etc.
Another reason why I loved this: we gotta preserve legacies. David Bowie died a few weeks ago and received lots tributes, rightfully so since he's a legend. But I feel like groups like EWF are overlooked compared to classic white artists. EWF has so much dope music but you probably won't see an album of theirs on any greatest album list. So I love seeing people give them the spotlight they deserve.

I agree with you. It doesn't make sense that Daft Punk is praised to the fukking skies for their "musical genius" when EWF had groundbreaking shyt. You listen to like a guitar filter sample of "September" when Tip was spinning it back that's almost the whole sound of Daft Punk right there, no shots, but that shows you the kind of range this band had. And that was likely just a breakdown they probably used to warm up. And you have magazine critics who have no clue because they never really listened to the run, they just heard the award show medleys.
One of the most positive bands who talked about spirituality & showed you Egyptology with a reverence & appreciation for it. Not just something as a decoration but a study of the history & channeling that inspiration into their music.
I noticed that Tip didn't play the following:
After the Love has Gone
Boogie Wonderland
Let's Groove
Fantasy
I think there was a reason for that, Tip wanted to show you beyond the radio staples there were amazing songs & these were the works that people growing up were important to them.
the other thing I noticed no speaking just song after song to show you why this band was masterful.
And if coli fam want to know a bit more about the history (because you really don't hear about Maurice's life)This MF started at Chess Records as a session drummer on records by Etta James,Impressions,Buddy Guy! The sole reason why Earth Wind & Fire was formed was because Maurice started taking TM Meditation. The shyt is incredible when you think about it, all of the musicality you have in one ensemble & idea came to him through meditation.
Few bands would take these kind of risks like EWF did during this time:
RIP to a visionary legend as important as anyone can name of. All the musicians around the world are still studying how to place everything in the right spot. If someone claims to know soul music & they don't know "See the Light" or "Keep your head to the sky" walk away from them. That's the other thing, they cared about body of works. Man, what a era. Brazil wouldn't sound the way it does without Earth Wind & Fire. And of course the energy they got from Brazilian musical masters, they showed Brazil next where you could go with it.
Props to Tip for coming through in the crunch with a mix to show people on Beats One why you should appreciate musical elders.
