Q-Tip, Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill Partnering for Hip Hop TV Drama
New show will draw from the Native Tongues era of hip hop.

by Jared Larson JANUARY 10, 2014

We can probably safely say that not many people saw this collaboration coming.

Deadline reports that Q-Tip -- Grammy-winner and founding member of hip hop group A Tribe Called Quest -- is partnering with Wolf of Wall Street co-stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill to develop a scripted drama series loosely based on the rapper's musical career. More specifically, the show will draw inspiration from A Tribe Called Quest's involvement with the Native Tongues, a collective comprised of late '80s and early '90s hip hop artists known for their positive, Afrocentric lyrics.

Q-Tip's new show will reflect on the group's friendships and their impact on culture and today's music.

Leonardo DiCaprio, a long-time friend of Q-Tip, will produce the show through his Appian Way production company. No writer has been announced yet, but the project is expected to get shopped around to networks starting next week.

You know who'd be perfect for this show? Leo DiCap and Jonah Hill.

Thats wild. This is great news. Leo has all kinds of hip hop connections. He was the one pushed for Nas-Thief's Theme in The Departed.
