Mind you, this isn't some random nobody with no face on a blog or messageboard...This is a Hip Hop legend saying it, and I agree, Saigon is top 5 alive right now.

More like...........Q Tip SAID Saigon is Top 5 Alive. This is from several years ago when Sai appeared to have a chance and was on the comeup. Said as in past tense, much like Sai's career, sad to say as I was stannin for a minute.

Thats a cop out because Q Tip said it when Sai had no album out and since then Sai has put out an album that was excellent and got 4 1/2 mics

He had probably just laid his vocals on Saigon's album and was hype about it

That's probably it

Not a cop-out and I'll tell you why. For the life of me I cannot remember which mixtape that Sai used this same Q-Tip interview on, but I want to say it was on Warning Shots. It made sense for Q-Tip to say it at the time and I wholeheartedly agreed with him too. Back then, that was what, 2006? Sai was that n!gga to me! I swore up and down he had next after hearing Warning Shots. Then he dropped the Drama joint, Welcome to Saigon, and I about jizzed on myself. The icing on the cake though, was the Entourage storyline centered around him and Turtle. I figured when that happened, that meant the Machine was cosigning him and it was only a matter of time before he was going to be a serious problem. For whatever reason, The Greatest Story Never Told didn't see the light of day for like four or five years after that, and it no longer mattered breh. So yeah, what Tip said back in what? 05"?, made sense, but encroaching upon 2014..........not so much.

I respect Saigon, long time fan actually but don't feel he's top 5 alive.

Rakim
Big Daddy Kane
KRS-One
K-Rino
Brother Ali
Prodigy
Fat Joe
Cormega
Nas
Immortal Technique
AZ
Slick Rick
Z-Ro
Common
Scarface
Bizzy Bone
Kool G Rap
Pharohe Monch
Kool Moe Dee
Canibus

And probably others... but what I will say is Saigon has the potential to elevate, definitely. Cause he's a talented artist.

This is another cop out response because your making these statemnets based on what you feel...Not what Q Tip said. You're saying Q Tips words arent relevant in 2013 because Saigoin didnt blow up like u wanted....But blowing up has nothing to do with Q Tip stressing the "depth in his words"....Sai hasn't fallen off lyrically and still put out a great album...regardless if it didnt break mainstream. Its a cop out response because Q Tip said those words when Sai had no album out......so what difference would it make if Q Tip was more focused on Sais words...while your focused on Sais current position in the game...Those are 2 different things.

And another thing..Sais first album is better then any Jada solo yet no one would argue against Jada being top 5 alive....do u see the difference??

Anyone that calls an MC a legend without any classic ALBUMS cannot be taken seriously.

Well, as a listener, it goes without saying that my feelings are going to play a role into my opinion lol. Q-Tip's opinion on Sai was from 2005/2006 and you're posting this interview as if he just spoke it last night. I thought Lord Have Mercy of Flipmode fame was top 5 at one point too several years ago. You posted an interview from 2006 and act like it still bears relevance going in 2014. I will say this though, thanks for bringing it up cuz I'm listening to Welcome to Saigon right now on the strength of this thread.
