Jay and Nas said it to. Saigon just came out to late. If he didn't get locked up and came out a few years before things would be different. If Jay or Nas came out when Saigon did things would also be different. It's all about timing. 50 came along right at the end that's why his run didn't last that long. Now we got all these wack ass southern comedians who are having their run.

Anyone that calls an MC a legend without any classic ALBUMS cannot be taken seriously.
I feel you on a conceptual level... not sure its relevant to the discussion at hand though, anyways plenty of people would argue against jada being top 5 alive anyways...

in fact its actually the opposite very hard to argue that jada is a top 5 artist from a 'popular opinion' standpoint, i mean popular opinion is
Rakim/Kool G Rap/Big Daddy Kane/KRS One (pick one old school), Snoop, Jay-Z, Nas, and Eminem are all top 5 alive... me personally dont see it that way, but those are probably the only people you could possible claim 'no one would argue against them being top 5 alive'

Well, as a listener, it goes without saying that my feelings are going to play a role into my opinion lol. Q-Tip's opinion on Sai was from 2005/2006 and you're posting this interview as if he just spoke it last night. I thought Lord Have Mercy of Flipmode fame was top 5 at one point too several years ago. You posted an interview from 2006 and act like it still bears relevance going in 2014. I will say this though, thanks for bringing it up cuz I'm listening to Welcome to Saigon right now on the strength of this thread.

LOL...I dont see the difference between Q Tip saying it when Sai wasn't as big compared to right now when he still isn't that big.....and lets be honest....who since 2006 has come out with that same appeal that made you a believer since? NOBODY!!!...If Q Tip said it in 2006 and Sai drops one of the best albums in 2011 then yes it would still be relevant today.

Also..let me add. in 2006, Busta was still relevant and Q Tip didnt put him in his top 5....That says a lot because thats Tips boy

Saigon, along with Lupe, came out during the one-hit wonder run. The Mid to late 00s was the darkest that Hip Hop has ever came to.

all those MCs you named dropped classic albums. Jada didn't.

On the low 2011 saw Just Blaze and Kanye finally battle it out album for album with Watch The Throne and Greatest Story Never Told....Both had their main artist Jay vs Saigon......Kanye won the popularity contest but Just Blaze won musically. And Sai's words had more depth then anything Jay Z was saying.

Diff lanes, greatest story never told had hundreds if jewels dropped on it and was far better lyrically and content wise. But shyt, WTT album generated an energy that you couldn't get from sai especially when I was in Vegas for the WTT concert and they performed nikkas in Paris..

They both served diff purposes

"With a bigga butt than Trina/And a better face than Jigga's slut"
Saigon on "Let A N**ga Know"

That line was extra gangster because years later Jay said Saigon got next and then also did a song with him...LOL

To be top 5 alive you got to be better than KRS-One, Rakim, Nas, Jay, Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick Kool G Rap and people like that, not many can say that.
