I am currently reading Feynmans lectures volume 1. I want to get a basic level understanding of physics before I delve into quantum mechanics.
To me its fascinating how this universe works and why it works the way it does. There are some thing we'll never know about this reality but physics does provide a map for understanding it.

But why would I learn it? What jobs can I get with it? It's just some pie in the sky science that doesn't have any real world application. We won't see the fruits of today's research into quantum mechanics for decades.
Ironic thing to type, because we wouldn't have modern computers or smartphones if engineers and scientists didn't understand basic principles of quantum mechanics (transistors are dependent on this). GPS too for that matter.
So it's silly to say the field is somehow useless. But of course you're not going to read a book and get a job doing quantum mechanics, you'd have to go to school and study it for years to get into the field. Some people just like studying that kind of thing out of curiosity about how the universe works.
Try not to look at it from that aspect. Learn it for the simple sake of being curious and exploratory about how the universe works.
Just from reading some of volume 1 of Feynmans lectures my mind is already blown and has recontextualize how I see the world. That in itself is gratifying.

I tried this a few years back without success. The shyt is so counter to what science has told me that I had trouble wrapping my mind around it.
I feel like you kind of have to understand the math involved at some point and I don't have a math background.
I started with the duality of wave and particle regarding the nature of light and thought that it was dope.
But once it started down the road to Schrodinger's wave equation and especially Paul Dirac's antiparticles and electron spin I quickly got lost.
It is amazing how the subatomic world is completely different from all other "regular" science.
At one time I bought the Feynman lectures on physics on CD but don't have them anymore.
I started out with "Quantum : A guide for the Perplexed" by Jim Al-Khalili which was good.
Then I tried "In Search of Schrodinger's Cat" by John Gribbin which while dated was also good.
I tried Brian Greene but ended up thinking he was trash.
From that point I lost my way. I bought a couple of books by Roger Penrose :
The Emporer's New Mind - science book about AI, quantum mechanics, formal systems etc
The Road to Reality - shows a comprehensive guide to the world of physics and how it relates to how the world works. He does this mathematically which is where I fell down a deep hole with both of his books and never got back on track.

You could be a researcher/developer in Quantum Computing or Quantum Programming.
This is a wide open area with lots of room for research and invention.
They are building out from the basics and there is much work to be done to prepare, exploit and mitigate for the extra-capabilities of Quantum Computing and the way in which QC with disrupt our current technology.
examples:
also QC's solve optimization problems and we need to see how that fits into more general problem solving.
also it also allows for greater exploratory power for medicine, cosmology, NP complete and above problems etc.

I am a programmer so I am just keeping tabs on the current state of play. I don't have time to try to do that entire course because the maths would take a lot of work as I last did anything like that a long time ago and I am busy focused on learning something else related to React, node, js, Java and Spring programming. I am not young anymore.
What do I get out of it? Around 2010 I started to ask why we (humans) don't spend as much time as we should trying to understand reality and where we came from. I started looking into it and quickly discovered that I was wrong and that there was a lot of material out there. From the hard science-y based stuff to the Graham Hancock end of things. I was trying to find out what we knew of reality and ourselves as humans and so focused on theoretical physics, cosmology, anthropology and some history. At the end of the day science still doesn't know and I doubt that the answer is out there but it's sort of a habit now and I still find it interesting.
Not sure if Hancock is known on here but here is an example of his POV:
I also watch a bit of Icke as he knows a lot about the arrangement of power in modern day UK/USA. More for the history and less for the Lizards I should add.
The QM stuff also helps when discussing general computing topics at interview. Depending on the role they might want you to demonstrate a general understanding of computing and hot computing topics in addition to the specific tasks required by the job (big data, AI / machine learning, QM, security, fundamentals). Also if we do suddenly invent something that enables us to shift from current VN architecture to QM's I hopefully will be able to get a handle of what that actually means for me in practice.
Also there are some interesting things about reality that most people would find of interest / value if they were taught the right way.
Non-locality.
Quantum Tunneling.
Superposition.
Digital Reality.
Universal Constants.
Clean Energy.
Universal Speed Limit / Speed of Light / Speed of Causality.
Fundamental Forces.
Grand Unification.
String Theory.
If you start from asking where did we come from, what are we made of and what can we prove about those using science much of this stuff starts to have as a minimum some curiosity value. Ask yourself what is reality actually made of and furthermore could we actually have a look (so to speak) at those components? How are you able to move objects? Why do humans age?
