Travis is rapping quite a bit on this, which...isn't exactly his forte. No song stood out in my first listen, hopefully I find a few that I can add to my rotation.

Travis has had EXCELLENT songs with Quavo before...and Young Thug, Big Sean, TI, ScHoolboy Q, Kendrick Lamar, Chief Keef etc.

Act like Oh My, Dis Side or Pick Up the Phone doesn't exist brehs...

But what I'm worried about is that Travis has been heading into a more generic and overly melodic trap route since Birds album and I hope Astroworld is not a continuation of this recent trend.

Meanwhile, Quavo has forgotten how to rap. He's been slowly declining since 2014 and the No Label 2 mixtape. All he relies on is the autotune singing in his verses and his hooks, which he has mastered at this point.

So this collaboration effort between the two was always gonna result in disappointment imo.
i've noticed this too.

it's like he's specifically trying to make songs that go in the club now vs. make interesting music like he did on owl pharaoh and rodeo. musically he's dumbing himself down to appeal to the mainstream.

Pick Up the Phone is the only good song and it doesn't count since it's just a Thug & Starrah song that he strong armed his way on and sung Starrah's lyrics. :manny:

I don't know what to tell you if you think Oh My, Dis Side isn't a good track. But agree to disagree.

Point is, Travis has had excellent collabs as mentioned in my previous post, with features across his projects like Days Before Rodeo, Rodeo, Birds etc. Hell he had a great song with Andre 3000.

Quavo never had bars :russ: he’s always been all flow, nikkas finally getting tired of it

Disagree. He's no lyrical expert and certainly the weakest of the 3, but he's had some great moments on earlier projects and I think he peaked on No Label 2. His verse on Add It Up for example:

Add it up like a new calculator
In the trap with two guns like I'm Tomb Raider
Hop on the track with no pen or paper
We blowin' up, I got that detonator
You could add up the dope like accountants
Put that dope in the water, don't drown it
Add it up right now, bet it motherfukkin' lookin'
Like a nikka livin' up on a mountain
I dreamed I woke up in Phantoms, naked bytches in a mansion
I did my calculations, most of you rappers is imitatin'
They back on the island, I'm contemplatin'
Should I shoot to kill in my situation?
Mama said "Quavo, better stay patient!" (Mama!)
The dirt that I done you add up the cases

This just hits hard and the way he delivered it as well was excellent. None of this crooning slow shyt. Not saying this is Pharoahe Monch/Nas level stuff but it's a sure upgrade over what he's giving us now.

The road less traveled.
The theme of this album is putting chicks on drugs and then raping about all the things they do to them once they on the drugs. lol not hating just funny

Haven't listened to this yet, but I agree with whoever said Travis' last few releases (both his own and beats for others) seems like he's been chasing some all-encompassing mainstream sound. I loved Days Before Rodeo and thought Rodeo was nice, but Birds In the Trap and other stuff he's done since all have sound like assembly line beats. It's like he's just throwing a ton of different sounds on a track to make it appear like some grand orchestra or something like Kanye. But the shyt has NOT been hitting

they're easy to rap on lol. That's all that matters for a rapper. Can you see quavo and travis scott rappin on some soulful ass Justice League shyt.
That's not the point...it's others who make his same sound but better. Not about changing the sound completely.
