I doubt he has African American ancestry since his dad is from Sierra Leone. That would only be plausible if he were Liberian.

I think his dad is Aku/Eku group from Sierra Leone. The group is an admixture of the slaves from Britain who were taken back to form a new colony in 1786 (they were called “London’s Black Poor” & they were the first black Brits) & the slaves that were rescued on slave ships after the British empire abolished slavery. Both groups were taken to the new colony called, “Free Town” (the current capital of Sierra Leone).

You can read about the first group here: The British founding of Sierra Leone was never a 'Province of Freedom' | Africa at LSE.

There used to be a Salone breh on here who’s Aku/Eku.

I knew I remembered Idris claiming his grandfather was from Kansas City. It used to be on his wiki page, but has since been edited out.

Interesting. :sas1:

Idris Elba defends taking Black roles says his family’s from Missouri

Idris Elba has slowly grinded, over the course of nearly three decades. This past decade has seen Idris Elba become one of the biggest names in cinema. However, Elba often faces backlash, due to playing Black American roles, while being British. It turns out, Idris Elba does not care.

Idris Elba went from making cameos on such sitcoms as “Girlfriends” to playing opposite Denzel Washington on American Gangster. While Elba only had a minor role, his part stuck out. As a result, Idris Elba booked bigger movie roles. Through the 2010s, and into the 2020s, Elba has increasingly become a bigger name.

Idris Elba responded to all of the criticism he receives for taking Black American roles. First of all, Elba said he finds the whole debate annoying. Second, he feels this way because he feels as if his work is warranting his bookings of major film roles. Above all, Idris Elba said his grandfather is from Kansas City, Missouri, and he fought in World War II for the United States of America. As a result, Elba feels he has just as much of a right to play Black American roles as any other Black actor.

Meanwhile, reminder:

Most of you brehs are simple and easy to please. You are not serious about artistry.

Jamie is unbelievable in many of his roles and neither I or the other breh in this thread is pulling this out of our ass.

This does not negate that Jamie isn't talented. He still has some ways to go with his craft, he's just not there yet.

Meanwhile, reminder:

I don’t know if he’s lying about one of his grandads being from Kansas or not. If anything, it’s most likely from his mum’s side since his mum is Ghanaian. And I believe Ghanaians, Ivorians & Liberians have some of relationship & similarities.

Then again, it was a tad difficult for black actors to get roles in Hollywood when Idris was coming up & being British would’ve made it even more difficult for him back then. He left the UK as a promising actor only to end up in America living in one-room shacks whilst doing DJ & all sorts of menial jobs to survive. So, you can’t blame him for lying through his teeth for survival (if that’s the case).

Anyway, his dad is Sierra Leonean creole & the creoles in West Africa (not the same as Americo-Liberians) are called, “Aku/Eku”, in Sierra Leone & Gambia. And in Nigeria (some of them settled in Lagos & Abeokuta): they’re called, “Saros”. They’re descendants of slaves in England & rescued slaves from slave ships, after the British empire abolished slavery.

Breh had to do anything to survive in the US & live his dream. The likes of Joseph Marcell (Geoffrey from Fresh Prince), Idris Elba & Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Adebisi from Oz) moved to the US from the UK with promising careers in the UK & had to start from rock bottom in the US (even being homeless on the streets of America) to pursue their careers since Hollywood is pinnacle of their profession. So, you just have to show compassion/humanity & forgive them if they lied along the way. Anyone would lie to survive. At the end of the day, they never disrespected African Americans & they always show love. And that’s the most important thing.

Idk about the historicity of his Kansas City grandfather, but I will say, he has shown disrespect.

Geoffrey and Adebisi represented themselves well and properly, as foreign blacks who somehow interacted with and touched ados culture, cool. The difference between him and them is that, a, he played implicitly ados characters, and b, he explicitly stated that he wouldn't hire us for upcoming projects.

As an aside, aos actors be graduating from Yale School of Drama and still be 'starting from rock bottom'. Its the blackness, not the foreignness.

Naw bruh, that character was very minor in the movie :mjlol:
The whole idea was, being that he was Boer, he was ignorant ( their definition) of America's racial history and would have an open mind which would allow Jamie to con him.

Whether he was Boer or Australian, he came from a country with a racial caste system in place. So it's definitely a plot hole.

He never said that won’t hire ADOS actors.

He said that he wanted to hire Jamaican actors for a film set in Jamaica. Kinda like what Tarantino is doing and the coli is congratulating him on it.

Oh, this makes sense.

It must’ve been that “Yardie” movie that had Aml Ameen as the lead actor. It’s a low budget fictional movie about Jamaican immigrants in London & the target audience is mostly black Brits & Caribbeans. Perhaps, that’s why he said what he said.

Tarantino makes mega-movies & he’d be out here in the UK promoting his movies to an audience with “Phony accents” while hoping they’ll pay their hard-earned money to watch it.

Anyway, people just like trying to trifle a trifle. If you’re qualified to do a job & you ace the audition - especially in an industry that relies heavily on a global audience & not limited to a particular country - it should be all inclusive.

Quiet as it’s kept - Americans are one of the largest immigrant communities in the UK & they take a lot of the banking & finance jobs. And that’s understandable cos London is the financial capital of the world.
