Question about friendship

As we get older, the word “friends” & “friendship” seems funny to me. For example. My co-worker says yeah my friend is the head of partnerships at Airbnb or my friend works at NBC or my friend is an exec at Disney”. So I’m sitting there like... are these people really your friends? Or are you friends with them because of their jobs? Or vice versa.

So this just has me thinking, is this what adult friendships comes to? What you can do for one another? What happened to being cool with one another just off the strength.

Edit: I don’t have any friends tbh. Everyone drifted. But I don’t have a problem creating convos. People just don’t stick.

Most people will have a friend or two from they childhood or college and they like brothers, that's my situation. Everyone else is just an acquaintance of some type, not really friends. The co-worker thing is just convenience. You go to another job and they probably disappear.

OP the concept of friendship is outdated on the strength. Even the "closest" friends tend to drift away or in some cases rely on you for ulterior motives. In this day of age, you lucky to even meet somebody that's either going to ride with you or just kick a conversation without stabbing you in the back. All in all ,the best company I ever had in a while is the brehs on the Coli and my FF14 guild. Outside the net it's either co workers who dap and go, my wife and son but that's a given, and folks I keep on my IG who just heart and go.

Some people have a definition of the word friend that is better suited for the word acquaintance. When you actually have friends, and I don't just mean close friends, then you can tell the difference between these two categories.

Breh, not everybody has the same walking path. Some members are not even close to their families or in some cases don't have a family at all (mother, close uncle, grandfather, grandmother, and other close relatives dying within a decade). The hand full of friends either distanced or it's dap and leave. Extended family and etc is laughable when there's foolishness involved. Maybe just maybe folks are not as lucky outside the net. The Coli may be full of bitter incels, armchair revolutionaries, weirdos, walking Great Value Sports Almanacs, self hating fellows, and agents, but beyond these folks there's people that are more fam than anybody I know outside of the web. Let folks live dude
