I wouldn't say I have an interest in it, but I was just thinking about how dating works and how close it is to prostitution. This was just thought jokingly...but then it got me to wondering why prostitution IS illegal and why people don't push toward legalizing it? Maybe it's a silly question...

Do you suppose it's because supporters would be embarrassed to be seen lending their support? :patrice:

Abortion's legal and there's always the argument that women should not have what they do with their bodies regulated by law/men, so why not let them put a price on sex when folks are willing to pay? Isn't their risk to consider in both?

They're figuring the marijuana thing out and it seems to be working well and they were getting that popping in other countries just ...so why not? :manny:

Like I said, I'm not really a huge advocate for it, but if it's already happening anyway and everyone knows about it (like marijuana), then, hey...

Two Books:

Kevin Mumford's Interzones: Black/White Sex Districts in Chicago and New York in the 20th Century

David J. Langum's Crossing Over the Line: Legislating Morality and the Mann Act

These two books will show that prostitution being illegal is based on white hegemony's obsession with looking moral and masculinity issues in white males...read up; these two books detail the history of whites trying to block "immoral" acts from being legalized...the irony of whites trying to be moral :magichaha:

I'm bookmarking this post because I'm sure there's more thought that should go into it. I didn't really think TOO hard about it before I made the thread, but I know I can't be thinking it through enough. I'll try to check out some excerpts if I can find anything.

Government cant eat off of it

That's what I figure...and I remember a lot of people saying that was the reason that marijuana was illegal as well. That's kind of what makes me wonder why it can't be worked around at this point. Gay marriage was controversial and they're figuring it out. Would prostitution really be any worse?

its about America and whites looking more moral in the international spectrum...read those books and you will see that's why prostitution is different than gay marriage...Prostitution has a history of immorality that affects the international community...whites have their fake ass superiority complex that controls policy...

Do the sophisticated escorts and strippers who have sex on the side really get busted for prostitution now a days?

A women has to be out in the streets to get caught it seems. Seems like everything else goes though

The women with executive type pimps are free to roam. The women with street pimps are targets for legislation. All in all it should be illegal because it leads to child abuse as another poster stated.

The government can tax prostitution, they're called brothels. In a legal system I'd reckon ppl would have to get some type of sex workers EIN.:manny:

I agree tho with the point about white ppl and their laughable hypocritical morality stance being the real reason why it's not. Same shyt behind prohibition, the drug war, etc... I personally think it'll be up next on the agenda right after all these states get their marijuana decriminalization laws on the books.
