It's has to be more to it than than. I mean baseball teams can clear the bench and dudes can run 30 yards out the bullpen with no repercussion. Hocky players can square up and beat the shyt out of each other while the refs watch. It can't just be race.
I think Basketball is like that because the fans are literally RIGHT THERE! No boards or stands in between them and the players....liability for the league.

Yeah that's a very good point. Doesn't really stop fights though is my thing and it just punishes the players for heat of the moment incidents. Baseball and hockey fights are well more drawn out and escalate.

Very good post breh. The fan safety is definitely a factor in basketball

:comeon: If fan safety was a factor, they'd have mentioned that. Other than the big Detroit brawl, the reason has always been image. Always.

After the incident with Bryce Harper yesterday and the response from folks, I started wondering. This was seen as a positive thing from all the radio stations I listented to today but why wouldn't the same be said for the NBA or NFL. It can't be race because that's to obvious but what am I missing here?

you know exactly why............... :bryan:

I don't see the point of benches clearing in baseball. All of those dudes ran out there for what?
Well you to think about it, in baseball it is normally 1 offensive player on the field versus 9 defensive players so that is why they clear out the bench. But it is still clearly a double standard. Football or Basketball players are condemned if they get a tech or 15 yeard penalty bc it seen as being selfish and not controlling your anger. Whereas in Baseball, they can get kicked out and it is not seen as hurting the team or hot tempered but rather as up lifting the team or motivating them in some way

Yeah I was listening to callers on the radio say this very thing about the braves being about to fight. Like "It was geat to see they were ready to fight and show Bryce we are the big dogs in baseball". I was like damn...ok?

Fighting is part of hockey. It's how they police each other.

Fighting in MLB and NBA were treated similarly by both leagues and press until the Malice in the Palace. That was the game changer.

You'd think they wouldn't let them fight in hockey or baseball, because sticks and bats are involved :ld:

This is a poor ass excuse broskie

It's true though. That's why they tolerate it. shyt, the refs let them fight until someone is on the ground. Without fighting, the hockey superstars would not make it through an entire year. The enforcers keep the goons in check.

They don't have a league office? A disciplinary comittee? Nothing?
:heh:

No, that's really the main reason or should I say part of the reason there's fighting in the NHL. Trust me I'm a long time hockey fan, been one since I was five and played since I was seven. Say for instance some big lumbering defensemen comes and slams your star player into the board, there's a good chance someone will go up to that defensemen and at the very least start shoving him around for hitting the star player. And it could very well escalate into a fight. Sometimes if a player hits a rookie, the rookie's teammate may come over and harass that opposing player and that could result in a fight. So it's used to enforce "law" which is where the term enforcer comes from.

But sometimes dudes just fight because they're pissed at one another or maybe they want to give their team a spark if they're losing.

I'm not saying its a good or bad reason, but there it is.

Anyway, there's been increased chatter over the years about is fighting even necessary in the game and perhaps it should be taken out. In the European game you'll get ejected automatically for a fight I believe. It's just the NA game where you get your five minutes penalty. But the European leagues are less physical due in larger part to a larger ice surface.
