you're right. i guess it would depend on how into religion they are. i have seen some pretty intelligent people who are religious but i have never met any intelligent people who have no life outside of church and work. my problem is when i think of religious people i think of the nuts. the more moderate ones are ok with me. i still dont like to debate them tho but i see where your question is coming from.

Lucky you. Due to my occupation, I'm constantly meeting them so developed a rather 'thick skin' to deal with the overzealous ones. Of course, having a few in my own immediate family gave me years of practice. I have yet to meet any 'nuts' although I've encountered a few Hebrew Israelites who were nothing like they're portrayed.

There's really no point in debating them, especially if their goals and mine aren't opposed, so I keep it at the 'discussion' level to see where we have any common ground and work from there.

i have them in my fam and ive noticed a pattern. the more into church and spewing bible verses they are, the least likely they are to have an intelligent discussion about it. to the point that they get angry with me and tell me im going to hell :pachaha: so i try to never ever talk about it with them anymore

The title should say "Christian" peeps

As for Muslims

(Quran: Surah AI-Mu’minun,23:Ayat 12–14).

We (Allah) created man from a quintessence of clay. We then placed him as a nutfah (drop) in a place of settlement, firmly fixed, then We made the drop into an alaqah (leech like structure), and then We changed the alaqah into a mudghah (chewed like substance),then We made out of that mudghah, izam (skeleton, bones),then We clothed the bones with lahm (muscles, flesh) then We caused him to grow and come in being and attain the definitive (human)form. So, blessed be God, the best to create.

So if we arrange these stages chronologically we might come up with something like this

  1. Nutfah amshaj (drop that is mixed) this stage covers the period from fertilization to implantation. This stage is further divided into: (present day germinal stage): Khalq, Taqdir, Harth.
  2. Takhleeq (present day embryonic): this stage extends from the beginning of the 3rd week until the end of the 8th week and covers the developmental events. This stage is further divided into: Alaqah (leech-like), Mudghah (somites), Izam (skeleton) and Laham (muscles).
  3. Nash”ah: (Growth) [present day Foetal stage] During this period the shaping and modelling are active, the external appearance develops in such a way that foetus becomes recognizably human. It lasts till the completion of pregnancy. It is further divided into: An-nashaa-Khalaqakha (from 9–26wks) and Al Hadana-al Rahamiya (from 26 wks to full term). This could be an apt way of classifying the various stages of human development. (3)

In Layman's terms it means that we have the characteristics of God and his likeness. We have the capacity to love, think, create art, imagine, provide for others beyond selfish benefit, etc every human is made in God's image, man or woman, child or man, etc.

You can get more thought out answers from different people but the general gist is that we have the likeness of God. :ld:

It's like when you hear a Kanye West track before Ye starts to spit verses and you can tell it is a West track because it has his fingerprints all over it. Or you can look at a picasso and tell it's his style of work due to Picasso's characteristics. It's not a perfect example but I hope you get the gist.

Thanks for the response. There is, however, an issue with your initial statements. Zygotes/embryos don't have the capacity to love, think, create art, imagine, provide for others, etc. so how do they qualify?

What does it mean to you when you read that man was 'made in God's image'?

Trying to get some understanding of this phrase since the way many religious people use it in arguments against abortion is incredibly weak and the way so-called atheists use it makes no sense.

it has something to do with spirituality..i believe..since GOD is a spirit

GOD doesn't look at our appearence...but our hearts...so all the ethnicities coming from adam and eve makes sense..i mean why are we all here?..if GOD plays favoritism...that doesn't add up...

whats that verse

"there is neither Jew nor Greek..Male or female..for you are all one in christ"

where does seeing character before the superficial come from?...where does seeing character before gender come from?

when adam and eve fell..i believe they inherited satan's character...which marred the image...which is why satan is the god of this world

what does it say about lucifer in the bible?..."your heart was lifted because of your beauty, you corrupted your wisdom for the sake of your splendor"(he was fixated on the superficial)

what is white supremacy based on?..superficiality

lucifer feelings toward GOD could equate to an inferiority complex

his feelings toward mankind...a superiority complex

what happened in the garden of eden?

satan spoke to eve=superiority complex(hides feelings of inferiority)
adam listened to eve over GOD=inferiority complex(hides feelings of superiority)

which is reason for the need of Jesus perfect humility

it all adds up to me

people might not want to hear "inherited satan's characteristics" or "satan is the god of the world"

but how else can you explain this sin filled world

Nah, I specifically titled it that way to get replies from all. It isn't as if everyone in civilization hasn't heard the phrase in some way, shape or form, so all are welcomed to respond. Muslims are no exception since their belief is nearly parallel......
O mankind! reverence your Guardian-Lord, who created you from a single person, created, of like nature, His mate, and from them twain scattered (like seeds) countless men and women;- reverence Allah, through whom ye demand your mutual (rights), and (reverence) the wombs (That bore you): for Allah ever watches over you. (Sahih International, 4:1)

And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me. (Sahih International, 51:56)

Go the Ancient Aliens route and this will all make sense. The extraterrestrials bioengineered modern man by combining their DNA with the DNA of early man

To be as direct as possible. The 'light'.

The capacity of man to create, to not be subject to the will of the environment around you. Which is the one aspect that seperates man from every other beast that walks upon this earth.

Humans ARE subject to the will of the environment, though, and how does an embryo have the capacity to create?
