why is this seprate room thing so common, nearly half the replies

Some people just enjoy the fight and Thu if your with someone for 30 years plus, where's your self going

It is actually starting to be recommended. Especially as couples get older. Drs and counsellors even saying it could help relationships.
People rarely have the same sleep patterns and preferences and as folks get older they get fussier and its easier to mess with their sleep. Illnesses, hormonal changes, breathing issues, movement issues, temperature, sound, light, what helps them fall asleep, how they like to get up.
People are less adaptable the older they get.
Prob better for them to have their own space than wake up irritable everyday snapping at each other. Then being crusty to everyone around them.

Parents married almost 35 years

They're still married and they act like kids at times. Instead of giving up on the idea of marriage completely I've paid attention to my Dad's actions mostly and I'm making sure I don't make the same mistakes he made. Some people just set themselves up to be unhappy.

Maternal grands nearly 47 (granddad passed)
Paternal grands... legally 66 years but they've effectively been separated 65 of them though they can't seem to ever really quit each other
