First of all I'll preface this by saying I'm 30 and I was raised down south. Big part of my upbringing was manners and respect. All adults addressed as 'sir' or 'ma'm', open doors for ladies, stfu when adults are talking, get up from the table if you have to blow your nose, don't call adults by their first name (now if a person is over 50 you are getting that Mr/Ms regardless). I don't press this stuff on people but its how I came up.

One of my friends is a dude I met in college. Dude is part Jamaican, Italian, and Russian from NJ, but he looks like a white dude. Son swears he is black as the ace of spades and has to be the RUDEST mf I've ever met (although its funny at times). I'm talking cursing as hit moms :lolbron:, blowing his nose at the dinner table :pacspit:, telling jokes about a chick's weight while the chick is standing RIGHT THERE, etc. We went apartment shopping like 8 years ago and this dude said to the rep 'Yo so are there like MAD OLD WHITE PEOPLE living here?? If so, I don't want to stay here'. :dead: :deadmanny: :wtf:.

The only person I have ever seen this dude show any respect for is my grandmother when she came to our apartment years ago.

I know that not all people from up north are like that or whatever but I'm just wondering. Are manners just something that northerners don't care for/grow up with?

Personally, I don't think manners/courtesy are stressed enough at a young age here in the Northeast (NY) as much as it is in the South.

I thought I was the only one that considered blowing your nose at the table is probably the rudest things you can do at the dinner table based on the frequent violators. :wtf:

I seriously wanna smack someone for doing this shyt. :snoop:

nikkas from down south are some of the most ignorant and rude negros there are

when people talk about rowdy ******s they're most likely referring to the southern kind

I'm from NY so I may be able to answer this for you

We express manors, but not formally as you describe. For instance, sir and ma'am are too formal so people would probably say miss or me, but it depends

Blowing your nose thing is just disgusting, but I never heard leaving the table.
You man was just being obnoxious to be honest. He is a bad representation of someone trying too hard to be down if you ask me.

I have the utmost respect for old heads.

I will say, however, that it is more of an ethnic thing as I have NEVER encountered anyone aside from Caucasians that act the way you described. My friend in the 8th grade used to curse his mother out.....just like Eddie Murphy described in Delirious.....

Go to about the 27:00 mark.
