Every sports network and major sports analyst(outside of a select few) hold Elway in high regards. If I were to look at his stats without taking the quality of his teammates into account, he would certainly be pretty damn overrated.

I know he has a 2-3 Superbowl record with the 3 losses coming against historic teams, but shouldn't it even be an accomplishment that he got there(if, of course, the team was garbage). I hate to say this, but the way the media treats him is Lebron-esque. They prop him up even in losses and act like he was the sole reason for winning. I think Bron is the goat, but he needs to get at least SOME of the blame and the same should go for Elway.

So, was Elway overrated or nah?

I mean minus his first and last SB appearances he was pretty trash in the big game...:yeshrug:

Didn't he go 11 of 22 with 1 INT or something like that in his first SB win?

Edit:

SB Stats:
Elway: five games, 152 attempts, 76 completions, 50% completion, 1,128 yards, three touchdowns, eight interceptions, a 59.3 quarterback rating and two Super Bowl victories.

:hhh:

Elway is not overrated. The three super bowl teams in the '80s were garbage without him. I think his accomplishments prior to winning the two super bowls (after his prime, when he was still pretty good) are what make him stand out.

He is every bit as good as his reputation says he is.

Kinda overrated. His stats in the SB are super pedestrian

TD carried those 90s teams

He's been overrated. Pre wade philips/Mike Shanahan, had as many picks as tds. People who say those sb teams were garbage without him should learn some football.

That isn't to say hes not a good qb, but the way he is rated is just so much higher than his actual performance.

Rated right where he should be rated but yea, looking at his season by season stats, he had some Kyle Boller looking seasons

A deeper look at his stats show maybe 5 above average seasons outta 15.

57% completion percentage.

He's Kerry Collins with a couple rings and without the alcoholism

Comparing QB stats from that era is like comparing PG stats to this era. The rules were different, the philosophy was different, the coaching was different. Tony Romo's numbers blow Troy Aikman's out of the water if you're comparing side by side but I hope you wouldn't rate Romo higher.

Looking at numbers alone would lead you to believe that Stafford is a HOF QB.

That's true but he had some inexcusable seasons numbers wise

I get that. QBs now pass a lot more passing yards and TDs are much higher now. Numbers are hella inflated...i feel u

But......his completion % are still mediocre to bad. Plenty of years where he barely had more TDs than interceptions. Putting up Dilfer numbers his first 10 years. He didnt really improve much until his 30s

The Broncos had the No.1 scoring defense in 89, yet somehow Elway with his 18 td/18 int season, "Carried" them. Arguably the most overrated athlete in all of sports. Simply because he looked the part and the pedigree. World class talent(Arm, mobility, prototype size, brilliant(went to Stanford), hotshot baseball prospect. But he rarely delivered like he was suppose to. In his lone MVP season(87), Jerry Rice only had one td less receiving, than Elway THREW!!! Think about that for a moment.
