Let me clarify: To live "well" downtown, and fully enjoy everything it has to offer, you need to make that amount.

You lived in Streeterville making 75k, that's what ~$1,300/week after taxes?

Where'd you live in Streeterville? Building, floor, and floor plan?

Aqua building starts upper $200's, Randolph street high rises are the same. The 777 building is on the cheap side, but you have no deck or balcony.

You get a spacious 1bedroom or a shoebox studio?

You drop the $20k for that garage parking space, or you use a parking lot?

You had a condo? How'd those monthly HOA fees look? Good buildings run $350+/month, easy.

You live downtown you pay premiums for everything.

I originally thought the OP was probably in Hyde Park thinking he was in Roseland, walking around like "Hmmm this isn't so bad"

That was me chillin on the rooftop deck.

I lived in a large studio that felt more like a 1bd.

I ended up parking my car in the South Loop because I couldn't justify paying $200/mo to store my ride.

I eventually moved to the South Loop. After that, Wicker Park.

S Loop is my favorite part of town, by the way. The Black Excellence is off the charts.

People forget that there are various different areas and neighborhoods in Chicago and the change of scenery in each area.

Chicago is huge! I currently reside up north in a yuppie neighborhood but the rent is ok, I'm only one train ride away from downtown (where I work) and there is virtually no violence in my area.

Plus its very diverse over here and there is a bunch of convenient stores, bars, clothing stores, etc just a few steps away from my apt. :ld:

Tons of growth and job opportunities in Chicago depending on what field you're in.
Yo, I'm in Wicker Park. Hit me up if you're down to grab a drink. If you're lucky you might even see one of my sets.

in.

What neighborhood you stay in? You in the corporate field or retail field downtown?

People that stay in Lincoln Park, Wrigleyville, Avondale tend to have several roommates to cover living costs, employed in different sectors.

saw this unit at the streeter. 1br 2100$ with a smaller room that was being shown as an office. forgot what floor. but this shyt was sick, views of the trump tower, sears tower from the living room/kitchen and navy pier from the balcony. unheard of here in SF. the only downside is the parking shyt is like 250$ i think

but fukk... this same unit in SF would go for no less than 4000$ :sadcam:

edit- fukk the bay area :damn:

As I said, to live "well" and enjoy everything downtown, you need a bigger bankroll. Assuming the person wants 750+ sqft, a deck with a view, and a parking space( and a nice car to go in it) they need 120k+.

South loop is okay.

I'm in the corporate field. I stay in Lincoln Park...got a studio...rent is 815.

You must be young <~25 as It's mostly younger women(mostly Caucasian) that live there, I don't see many sisters up there and the ones I do see are usually lighter than I am. Two women I was involved with stay up there, as well as the current one im seeing, and whenever we walk the street we don't see too many pairs like us. :mannie:

That's by the Aqua building, it's fairly new, mostly older people live there.

Just find a position paying $147k annually so one of your checks covers the rent.:whew:

You came when it's nice weather, you'll be like :wtf: when winter hits, especially if you're from Cali

yea seriously i was ready to die in nyc earlier this year and it was only 25 degrees with no wind... and i had hella layers on. again, WTF # -10 degrees.
fukk. that might be the deal breaker :sadcam: i really liked chicago (in the summer) the last 2 times i've been there :aicmon:

i might be taking these "low of 55 degrees" winter for granted out here :leon:
