Let me clarify: To live "well" downtown, and fully enjoy everything it has to offer, you need to make that amount.
You lived in Streeterville making 75k, that's what ~$1,300/week after taxes?
Where'd you live in Streeterville? Building, floor, and floor plan?
Aqua building starts upper $200's, Randolph street high rises are the same. The 777 building is on the cheap side, but you have no deck or balcony.
You get a spacious 1bedroom or a shoebox studio?
You drop the $20k for that garage parking space, or you use a parking lot?
You had a condo? How'd those monthly HOA fees look? Good buildings run $350+/month, easy.
You live downtown you pay premiums for everything.
I originally thought the OP was probably in Hyde Park thinking he was in Roseland, walking around like "Hmmm this isn't so bad"
That was me chillin on the rooftop deck.
I lived in a large studio that felt more like a 1bd.
I ended up parking my car in the South Loop because I couldn't justify paying $200/mo to store my ride.
I eventually moved to the South Loop. After that, Wicker Park.
S Loop is my favorite part of town, by the way. The Black Excellence is off the charts.
Yo, I'm in Wicker Park. Hit me up if you're down to grab a drink. If you're lucky you might even see one of my sets.People forget that there are various different areas and neighborhoods in Chicago and the change of scenery in each area.
Chicago is huge! I currently reside up north in a yuppie neighborhood but the rent is ok, I'm only one train ride away from downtown (where I work) and there is virtually no violence in my area.
Plus its very diverse over here and there is a bunch of convenient stores, bars, clothing stores, etc just a few steps away from my apt.
Tons of growth and job opportunities in Chicago depending on what field you're in.

coldest weather i've ever been in was 25 degrees in NYC this february. wtf is -10
my receipts said 9.75% which is what im paying now
that city sticker
