I couldn't care less what the thread title is about.
in my experiences, whites are far more likely to violate personal space
i just want to know why the 70 year old black guy at my job touches my arm and back.

I was gonna say, this is old folks' ish.
It used to be that when a person was relating to you, they would touch you (a lot of times they don't even realize) to show concern/conviction/comraderie. It's not that they are trying to violate you per se.
Like if you say something and they agree, they might tap your shoulder.
Or if they're saying something they really want you to remember they'll touch your arm.
Or they might pat your back as an "at a boy".
One of the older sisters at my church recently apologized to me for doing this. She's an animated person, and she told me that her son (who is my friend) said that she should realize that everyone is not comfortable with that. I told her it didn't bother me, because I don't sense any malice when she does it.
