Michael made the decision to dispense with the services of Quincy, even though the three albums the pair recorded together had sold over 70 million copies in a decade.

One of the reasons Michael no longer wanted to work with Quincy was because he felt the producer was taking too much credit for his work.

If you notice in every interview Quincy Jones does he name drops Sinatra, Ray charles, sara vaughn etc etc

it's because he's worried his lasting legacy will be tied to Michael Jackson....all that work and he's just known for those 3 albums; he even created the fresh prince of bel-air and VIBE magazine

nah...people wanna hear about MJ. that shyt drives him insane

You can tell that Quincy is bothered by the fact that people associate him with MJ primarily now. He has some amazing albums in his catalog but people don't talk about them anymore, hell I bet a large portion of Thriller fans have never heard a Quincy Jones album and don't have the motivation to seek one out.

His career has boiled down to "the guy that produced Thriller".

correction, Michael's manager decided that q should go and instead hook up with a sound that was being used by everyone on the charts= teddy riley

Big egos gon ego? :yeshrug:

Seems like they both want to extend their legacy, ain't no one right or wrong in this situation.

U might be right...

Because the article i quoted from also mentioned how Mike felt Quincy was doing too much and wanted Q to have less control of the MJ peojects..

Mike was like CL smooth..

"Just make my beats..phaggot!"

I understand why he's upset but that's the producer game :yeshrug:

Play the background and get the lion's share of the proceeds and let the artist have his shine.

If he wants more people to be knowledgeable of his legacy, he gonn have to get from behind the instruments and hit some dance steps.

Too many people on both sides fukking up mutually beneficial relationships because they want to step out of their lane.

People dont know he's an accomplished jazz musician who had won everything multiple times before he met MJ..
Infact, jazz purists were mad he went and did a pop album. But Quincy was motivated by the money and fame and went ahead.

He produced Lesley Gore in the 1960s, breh. He wasn’t new to pop.
