ain't even mad, kdot is the best lyricist right now but elzhi is my favorite of all time.

Elzhi is more of a punchline rapper and kdot is more like a poet. they ain't really comparable as lyricists.

:heh: okay, I'll say something on topic.

Lyricists. People tend to judge the criteria for lyricism in hip hop differently than other genres.

It's not all punches and ":ohhh::gladbron::ooh::banderas::wow:" lines.

:whoa: DONT CRUCIFY ME OR TAKE IT THE WRONG WAY WHEN I SAY THIS-

actually, I don't give a fukk. I'm not comparing and contrasting...

People really shouldn't look at rap artists like Kendrick and Pac and Scarface and be like "oh they ain't top notch lyricists." cause they ain't got witty punchlines and/or super catchy ass hooks that stick in your mind more than the actual song or are super fun for you to quote over and over.

Nah, they're SONGWRITERS. Other genres have songwriters and people who play their instruments and get respected for it.

Ain't nobody looking at Burt Bacharach or Carol King or Marvin Gaye or Stevie Wonder like ":mindblown: whoooaaa rewind dat one line that shyt is CRAZY!" Nah, you do it for whole songs.

They might have a verse in a song you might like more than the other verses on the song, but...

look, man. I don't understand how you can listen to a song like "Sing About Me" or any of those The Heart songs and say Kendrick isn't a good lyricist.

Elzhi on his shyt would make Kendrick sweat

Edit: I think Vakill would give Kendrick a run also

Double edit: I fukkS with Kendrick...but I can name a plenty of emcees that can go bar for bar

Kendrick is a true lyricist...very conceptual and original...but please let's not forget there were underground "kendricks" before we heard of him
Kendrick is more versatile then the rappers you mentioned. Elzhi has better rhyme patterns but the combination of new age flows, lyrics and patterns by Kendrick cant be matched by those friends you mentioned.

After i heard buried alive, i knew he was a monster.

Kendrick is really not that good lyrically. He's just better than his peers in the mainstream so it sounds great

But compared to real lyricists, he's not impressive or memorable

I like Kendrick a lot, and I am very happy that he has made it in the mainstream.. His lyrics aren't that impressive, but he covers everything with his flow and content. He's still lyrically better than 99% of the mainstream acts, but his flow is what goes unmatched.

yeah, EXACTLY.

Kendrick isn't gonna sit down and say "you know my M-O. trim-fro, brim-low, gems-glow, tim-bo's, slim-ho in my lim-o" like Elzhi is.

Perfectly honest, that's more Ab-Soul's lane.

That's not taking from one style of rapping or the other, but it's really apples and oranges. People who enjoy the latter can REALLY be elitist as far as "lyricism" goes.
