both classics, but which do you prefer? Voodoo is definitely more ambitious/experimental. But Brown Sugar is an album I can literally listen to and enjoy at any moment. Voodoo I have to be in a certain mood.

to me, this is as lopsided as any comparison, ever. BROWN SUGAR BY A ZILLION MILES. i did not mess with Voodoo like that. Boring ass songs with no structure that drone on.
Mel, you're a great poster, so don't take this as disrespect, but posts like this reveal your whiteness. Certain songs on Voodoo just have a level of soul and black spirituality that I think is hard for a white person to really be moved by.
Like, D'Angelo was on another spiritual plane when he made these joints.

Africa is my descent
And here I am far from home
I dwell within a land that is meant
For many men not my tone, yeah

takes me back. You're completely off your rocker. Trust me. Africa & a few other songs go but this album is sloppy. If anything it reveals bougie, pretentious, detached Negroes TRYING desperately to relate to an idea of blackness or soul that their primped & preened lives lack.
so imma need you to respectfully go head with that bullshyt ass analysis.
well that didn't take long, guess I struck a nerve. I'm actually very curious to hear what your idea of blackness actually is, since you seem to view yourself as such an expert
