Lol. I gotta check you on this false romanticizing of the past. There were a gang of awful r&b singers during that era. nikkas like keith sweat, bobby brown, al b sure, etc were terrible singers and it didn't stop them from one bit from blowing up.

They were called out and crowned mercifully for it. I remember the jokes on comic view about Keith sweat sounding like a goat. And let's be real, al b and Bobby were one album wonders.
