so i was watching this and started thinking about today's r&B
we all know that r&b is a dead genre in the mainstream and many of the new artists mix their music with hip hop/EDM/etc.
but there are many talented r&b artists that have emerged over the last five years....and r&b has never been as regional as hip hop..but all of them are from regions outside the Northeast (for this thread NYC, Philly, and Boston, DC/MD don't count)
why? Canada is killing the r&b game right now and i can't think of any newish r&b singers or producers from NYC
the Northeast used to have new jack swing, neo soul, hip hop soul, all the 80s acts, etc.
is it because of the reverse migration of AAs to the south? but then why does the West Coast still have black r&b talent?
Discuss.
