so i was watching this and started thinking about today's r&B

we all know that r&b is a dead genre in the mainstream and many of the new artists mix their music with hip hop/EDM/etc.

but there are many talented r&b artists that have emerged over the last five years....and r&b has never been as regional as hip hop..but all of them are from regions outside the Northeast (for this thread NYC, Philly, and Boston, DC/MD don't count)

why? Canada is killing the r&b game right now and i can't think of any newish r&b singers or producers from NYC

the Northeast used to have new jack swing, neo soul, hip hop soul, all the 80s acts, etc.

is it because of the reverse migration of AAs to the south? but then why does the West Coast still have black r&b talent?

Discuss.

I believe some of it has to do with the new reverse migration. What AAs involved in music really raising their kids in NYC? They either go to LI or head to the South.

Yeah I think that's what it is. I can only name a few full AA artists from New York from the last ten years

A boogie donq young ma, funny enough a boogie and young ma moved south then came back north

Boston and NYC are heavily West Indian compared to the 80s and 90s

Butt what about Philly?

New York/North East never was that influential/important to R&B outside a few situations here and there, when you compare to the impact the South, Mid West and even Cali had on it.

Northeast def > Midwest

All their rappers and singers move to New York or LA

Plus Overall they have not had the commercial success of groupsbkentuoned in the video and that I mentioned
