Californ-i-a by way of BK
why he shoot him?
According to Big L's brother, L was with some people when they went to go do something to Gerard Woodley, but it didn't work out (Kinda implied nikkas went to shoot him, but it backfired and they couldn't do it for whatever reason). So when Gerard had a chance to get get back, he remembered Big L being there, so he clapped him up.

Others say it was because they couldn't get Big L's brother who was in jail at the time (Another brother, not the same one I mentioned above). He got killed after he got out of prison, when he went to try to find out what happened to L.

Aside from this thread the coli is the only place I hear Big L being overrated. Bar for bar vocab aside he was one of the purest MCs much like B.I.G, if he had a prolonged career like Nas or even AZ maybe people here wouldn't be so quick to throw him in the overrated category. A life cut too short, I'm not gonna lie didn't even hear about Big L until "just a moment" but when I first heard "put it on" and "streetstruck" I was in awe. Breh had that voice and delivery I like Skillz too for that but whenever you heard Ls punchlines you were like:gladbron::damn::ohlawd: and the DITC beats:noah:.

I used to have him in my top 5 but I no longer have a top 5 or even 10 because a lot of elite level MCs bring something new to the table you can't quantify that shyt but longevity helps I guess.
