My friend was in an elevator at work at ING in the Netherlands on his way to lunch with a few colleagues.

For whatever reason they were discussing a news story related to a gorilla.

Suddenly one of the girls turned around to my friend and said that he looked like the gorilla.

She could tell by the look on his face and the silent response that he was not happy about what she has said, so she continued " ... and gorillas are so cute".

What do you do in a circumstance like that?

That's still Japan today. Contrary to popular belief the Japanese aren't all that creative. In fact they're rather lazy when it comes to research and creating.
I see it in Soul Calibur 6 (lack of African based customisation). The fact that they rarely research anything on African names, countries, food, clothing, cultures etc.
