We all know we're not in a post-racial society but even though most of us can go about our lives without having any incidents, sometimes certain things just firmly sit you back on your ass as it relates to reality.

Just finished listening to the latest This American Life podcast and this story in Act 2 just made me go :damn: at the blatant disrespect this brother faced.

Three Kinds of Deception | This American Life

Lawrence Otis Graham reads from an account of how he left his job as a $105,000-a-year Manhattan attorney to enter the exclusive Greenwich Country Club the only way they'd allow a black man like him: as a busboy. He discovers just how invisible he can become once he gives up his seat at the table and starts clearing the dishes instead—so invisible that people make racist remarks right in front of him. The passage is from his book A Member of the Club: Reflections on Life in a Racially Polarized World. (16 minutes) jobs/employment • race

This happened in the early 90s which isn't that long ago and you know nothing changed.

Its one thing to tacitly know it. Its another thing to hear about the actual incidents this dude faced straight to his face.

Am I reading this right? He left his job as a lawyer to do what now :what:

I have to go back and listen but I think he said he just did a temporary leave type of thing. He just wanted to see what it was like inside one of those clubs.

Elijah Muhammad said never force yourself where u are not wanted and was all for seperation from the whiteman. MLK on the flipside wanted everyone to be equal. This is the end result of MLK's vision. Had Black folks ran with Elijah Muhammads ideology instead, Black folks would probably have their own independent state and currency seperate from this country.

If you want to live in a country where your daily interaction with white people is a minimum you can easily do that. But you wont because you're one of those negros who simply talk and talk and then dont do sh1t. Stfu

Thats not what i meant.....I was talking about Black folks having their own state like Elijah muhammad suggested seperate from American laws. A Black state. Something not supported and maintained by white dollars but buy Black dollars. In the same fashion Indians have their reservations with no taxes.

Thats why I originally said "had" meaning instead of that march on Washington Black folks should have rioted like they originally intended to. U do remember how The march on washington was actually supposed to be a riot right? The moment for a Black revolution in America is long gone.....The Black man in America never got his freedom thru a bloody revolution....he was given his freedom by the whiteman.....But who knows what could have happened if there was a bloody revolution. Charles manson once spoke of the Black uprising....a Black revolution was in the air back in the 50's and 60's.....Only problem is charles manson was wrong about the uprising.
