Polar bears can smell living mammals from miles away, if you're close enough to take a picture the polar bear knows you're there.
I would never be in polar bear territory on foot. They say people leave their snow mobiles running even if they need to get off and do something because the bears move so fast and catch you off guard it's not safe to have turn the engine on
