It's between Wu-Tang, Public Enemy and NWA for best group ever imo, so trust this isn't at all a diss thread. However, a lot of street nikkas wasn't fukking with that Kung-Fu/different sounding shyt. Rae and Ghost were the street element. They talked about the real life drug dealings, the poverty all that extra grimey shyt that nikkas dealt with on a daily. nikkas getting shot, stabbed, drug wars etc...

Meth told a story that Stark got shot or stabbed before 36 Chambers came out....

I think.

So no one paid attention for the first 2-3 yrs? Protect Ya Neck was '92, the album '93, and Rae doesn't drop for another 2 yrs. So how did people even find Rae to pay attention to him for the album? And Ghost didn't pick up steam until after Cuban Linx. And Wu was played before that.

Dirty, Deck, Meth...and to a lower extent GZA are the standouts of 36 Chambers.

It's the equivalent of people saying street dudes didn't fukk with Kast/Goodie, because they were diverse in their music.

not 2 mention the whole regional bias bullshyt. Wu is a global iconic group. Back in the days 2 radio and MTV were basically the only exposure for the majority. Wu got a lot of play on both.

its not even possible that wu was a local act with the numbers and success they had.

My cousin was heavy in the streets and he used to clown me because I loved the essence and elements of hip hop.

I was helping him move and we were breaking down cardboard boxes in his garage. He asked me "Do you wanna take some of these boxes so you and yo homeboys can breakdance on?"

RZA said the same as OP before.

Other members in the group have too, over the years. He said that after they went platinum, he started to realize that most Wu fans weren't black. He's said a few times that when they first started, at the shows, the whole crowd would be black. But now, when he looks out there, he sees mostly white people. Ghost said that he thinks "his people" moved on from Wu when white people got put up on them, lol.

And it's true. Back when OB4CL dropped, Wu was still very much held mad high in the community. Once they went global, and hit the suburbs, there was definitely a shift in support from the street. White folks worship Wu. RZA said when he started seeing that, he saw less support from the day one black fans.
