Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
They really do. Try to tell them and they think you're bugging. They think if it was big THERE, then everyone was on it. And if it wasn't big there, they think it has minimal value. That's why the only vintage west coast album they give a1 credit to, are ones that sold great. But if you from the east and struggled to sell, they'll act like you ruled the world, as long as it meant something over there.
Again.. Because of regions, in their world, it's actually true. NYC had actual DJ's on the radio before radio had playlists. They were literally only playing their shyt, east shyt, and the most popular of the rest. But if you wanted to, you could never hear popular music on radio, if you hopped around to the right DJ's at the right time.

In Detroit we have a whole station for Hiphop and r&b. So yes we cared about what was on the radio

That's not unique to Detroit. :mjlol:

In Missouri we have Hot 103 Jamz. And they only played rap singles and R&B. The only time they'd play other shyt, is the Hot 8 At 8, where people would call in and request songs. Or a hip-hop show at midnight where they'd play less mainstream stuff.

I mean....you used Dre as an example. Dude is one of the biggest stars in rap, even back then. Meanwhile "Wu-Tang Forever" went 4x plat with zero radio singles. Unless you're gonna sit here and tell me you regularly heard "Triumph" on the radio. :unimpressed:

Matter of fact, make a thread asking what songs people heard on the radio in the 90's vs what albums they owned. I guarantee (regional DJ preferences aside) most of the radio songs are gonna be the same and most of the albums they owned had little to no radio spins.

E-40 and Too $hort older than Ghost and Rae. And ironically, everybody was saying 40 Water and Short Dog was wack in the 90's outside of the West and the South. All of those Bay Area tributes by Drake, Yo Gotti and the whole industry ten years ago made people finally respect Bay OGs like Short and 40. But 40 and Short collaborate on songs with the hottest young rappers in the game getting millions of views quick. 40 still dressing, dancing and rapping like he in his 20's and no one bats an eye. What is really trying to be said is that Rae and Ghost ain't been popping since the 90's. :hubie:They look, dress and move like fossils. Ghost dropped tons of classic material in the 2000's (i.e. Supreme Clientele, Fishscale etc.) but nobody seemed to care except 30 something whiteboys in the suburbs and old head NY nikkas. Rap ain't lIke rock music which reveres it's legends. Rap euthanizes it's old unless they can manage stay relevant which is rare outside of the cases of 40 and $hort. :mjtf:

Rap fans didn't give a fukk what the radio was playing in the mid 90's and 99.99% of rap back then had zero radio play unless it was a cross over single or on a show specifically tailored to rap.

Fred.
cap. The radio was still very viable back then. It wasnt the ONLY influence, but to say it wasn't a factor back then is false

You don't get the point. In their world, i agree. But they erroneously think their world is the only world or a reflection of the entire country. That's the problem.

In the mid 90's,the radio AND bet/mtv were were very influential. The narrative that either one wasn't being paid attention to, is revisionist nonsense. I can still remember songs that i first heard via radio in the late 90's. Been around the world Remix, still not a player, etc etc. R&b as well, Tyrone, you make me wanna.
These dudes making up shyt.

Idk who you were hanging around but in middle school in Detroit we cared about the radio. I turned on the radio just to hope to hear any Dr Dre song

Yeah bruh I stayed listening to the radio just about everyday I came home from school throughout the mid-late 90's. I remember hearing Bushman & Reggie Reg on WJLB. Then every Friday night they would be live on the radio from the club and play all the hits from 10pm until 1am. After 1 they would switch programming and do the quiet storm and play nothing but r&b.

By '97 I started getting annoyed with the radio b/c they kept playing the same shyt over every hour. By '99 I stopped listening to the radio.

chill bruh. Most of these people have an inferior complex to NYC so posting numbers will hurt their feelings.

Their mentality is just talk nonsense and believe in the nonsense.

It’s no wonder outside the east coast half these nikkas are viewed as retards lol
:mjtf: Anti ados rhetoric?

Neg pending. :wtb:

I said rap didn't get radio play unless it was a cross over song, a pop hit, or a mainstream single.

And what did you do....

In the mid 90's,the radio AND bet/mtv were were very influential. The narrative that either one wasn't being paid attention to, is revisionist nonsense. Named R&B, Puff Daddy, and collabos with R&B acts. :mjlol:

Thanks for proving my point.

And I don't even know where you're going with the BET/MTV shyt. Nobody said anything about them. Obviously Rap City, YO! MTV Raps and The Box were hot. And again....most of the songs played on those places....did not get radio play.

Like I said, make a thread asking what songs were big among rap fans of every region vs what actually got played on the radio....and there will be very little over lap. We can clear this up real quick.
