Rondo is still the most pure PG in the league, plays great defense, great playmaker, gets more rebounds than most PGs, led the league in assists multiple times. He's not having a good year but he's still the most underrated PG in the league.

Pure is more an insult than anything. No one should seek to be pure anything in life but pure of heart lol.

A pure scorer has been used against Carmelo Anthony for years to highlight he is a nothing but one dimensional scorer in example(unfair IMO, but that's how he's viewed).

So a pure point guard is really just a point guard who can only pass the ball, and in this day and age, that is really really bad. Not that it was ever good. Look at all the goats like Isiah Thomas, Magic Johnson, John Stockton, Jason Kidd and Gary Payton? None of them were just "pure passers". They could all score as well, and though Jason Kidd wasn't a great scorer, he worked on his 3 point shot and made it a strong aspect of his game. Not to mention he was an amazing defender, rebounded well for his position and was a much better passer than Rondo because he made the right basketball play and didn't just assist hunt.

Even his pure passing ability is overrated. Hogging the ball until you get a guaranteed assist is whack and makes offenses slow and predictable. That's what makes Curry a better passer than Rondo IMO. He doesn't have the same stats of course, but he knows that the pass that leads to the pass that leads to the points (aka hockey assists) are more valuable than dribbling the air out of the ball until someone is 100% open.

I was a huge Rondo fan in the past, but I see the truth now. He was never that good. Any point guard would be able to win with Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce. In fact, I'd say if you swapped Rondo with someone who actually shoot the fukking basketball and hit free throws, that Boston run would have lasted longer. Once KG and Pierce started to slip and Rondo became "the guy", the team was screwed.

Pretty good, but not great point guards who could have extended that run: Jameer Nelson, Chauncey Billups, Andre Miller, Darren Collison, Kirk Hinrich...
