U are a scholar...when did U start listening to Rap??

I am far from a scholar. I was mostly raised on Soul music from the 60's and 70's. Even though I've been listening to rap since the early 90's , I still feel like a newbie considering how long it's been around.

Still you're coming at me with something that's irrelevant to what I was arguing. I never discredited Rakim, G. Rap, or Kane for their skills as MC's. I was stating that Jay, Nas, and Biggie are/were better songwriters which goes beyond being an incredible wordsmith. No, I'm not referring to a rapper being able to write hit records. I'm talking about a rapper being able to create a song like "I Gave You Power" in which there's a concept, a hook that fits the mood/content of the record, an extended metaphor, on top of all of the other poetic elements in the song. That's my personal preference.

You seem to be more into the type MC that is more technically talented and there's nothing wrong with that.

Lastly, you went completely off on a tangent to prove something that I was never arguing against. It's a "vs." thread and it's still a matter of opinion no matter how you want to spin it. This doesn't require a degree of expertise because this thread isn't about being an MC. It's about which one is better than the other, which requires no expertise. If I like Nas, Biggie, and Jay more than Ra, G. Rap, and Kane, it doesn't matter who has the better skillset. It's about who I like and why. Plain and simple. All you can do is disagree. All this extra name calling and crap you're throwing out really isn't called for. It's like you're too in your feelings to acknowledge someone having a difference of opinion.

your point is all based in fallacy.
just like you mentioning, I gave you power.
Just like you don't know anything attached to the record , I gave you power.
is indicative of you not knowing anything, in regards to emcee'n.
let alone this culture,...
stop fronting for the camera and letting another poster gas you up to get tabled't the fukk up.

you are a toy, breh.
you don't know shyt about emcee'n like that.
it is obvious from your posts and your responses.
you not fooling anyone who is a real bboy, and I am the realest bboy on earth.

I throw my tape on
And I watch ya
Three second later
I got ya, shakin' your head
Dancin' instead of sittin'
The rhymes kick
The beats hittin' you
Just like a home run
Slammin' like a slam dunk
Riding the wave that James Brown gave funk
It happened to James, like it happened to me
How you think I feel to see another MC
Gettin' paid , usin' my rap style
And I'm playn' the background meanwhile

Standing by the speaker, suddenly I had this
Fever, was it me or either summer madness
Cuz I just can't stand around
So I get closer and the closer I get, the better it sound
My mind starts to activate, rhymes collaborate
Cuz When i heard the beat, I just had to make
Something from the top of my head
So I fell into the groove of the wax and I said
How could I move the crowd
First of all, ain't no mistakes allowed
Here's the instruction, put it together
It simple ain't it but quite clever
Some of you been trying to write rhymes for years
But weak ideas irritate my ears
Is this the best that you can make?
Cuz if not and you got more, I'll wait
But don't make me wait too long coz I'm a move on
The dancefloor when they put something smooth on
So turn up the bass, it's better when it's loud
Cuz I like to move the crowd

Even though he was from the old school I thought 87-89 was moe Dee's prime peak. He made his lyrical masterpiece in "I Go To Work" during that time. He is so underrated when it comes to EMCEEin.

Moe Dee when he rhymes at his best is extremely high level, he's got numerous dope songs lyrically and is a dope battler too. Styles wise he is underrated too, in his 92 or 94 album he did some flows and shyt that were so fresh for the time period, was crazy, he was rippin shyt. Really respect Moe Dee, as do legends like Rakim, KRS, Kane, Caz, Melle Mel and others. He's a cool brother.

Yeah when I bought his book There Is A God On The Mic, I came away with even more respect for the dude. May have not agreed with some of his selections but the thought process and presentation in the book was fantastic. I wish he would have put out the group version.

Yeah, word brother, on a side note if you know anyone who has that or a extra copy or know where's to get it would be willing to buy that shyt. I gave my copies away to some MC's, and my personal one which I lent got burnt up in someone's house fire. So I'm trying to get back that book for a reasonable price, I spoke to a brother on here but I'm not sure where he's at. I agree with your completely though, when I got that I wasn't really up on Moe Dee like that but that book gave me the desire to hear his shyt, and eventually heard and got every album. I wish he would re-release the book , do a part 2 and do the greatest groups one he said he was going to do, AND the Spitfire show lol. I agree with you, though I didn't agree with a lot I respect his opinion as a pioneer, innovator, great rapper and intelligent, knowledgable cool human being. It was extremely enjoyable. Oh word lol, yeah I said that before I read the end of your post lol. But certainly. I need to get that book for real, I hope someone can help me out one day lol. Don't wanna loose that, as I always recommended it to MC's to read.

question:

how are biggie, nas, and jay's music better overall.
when, they are nowhere near the original skill rubrick of g rap, kane, and rakim.
plus, came after g rap, ra, and kane.
already, etched out the new school way of thought's mold artistically as emcee till the end of time.
on top of not having a solid enough discography, skillwise or culturally
.
to match kane, g rap, and rakim.
even given kane's fall off, and the fact he came back.
plus, raps as good if not infinitely better than nas and jay right now.
plus, ra and g rap never fell off and have continued to showcase.
why argueably, they are in a three way conversation as the real goats.
with the real goat, krs.

plus, ra, g rap and kane would put out and have put out.
better recent projects, than nas and jayz have dropped, as well.
g rap has put out as high.
if not, higher quality material in the past fifteen years.
on all fronts better than nas and jay combined.
with no lackluster low skill based showings...

nas and jay have just for starters,....
one of the worst collabs of all time on mchg.
whereas g rap outside of busta....
has argueably been the most technically skill proficient emcee on features in the past fifteen years as well.

Uncertain grounds
If this is a battle, it wouldn't even be close. :mjlol:..especially if it was a freestyle live battle. Jay and Nas would need BIG to spit the verse of his life to even be in the conversation. Jay would seem disgustingly out of place.

Random comments:
  • Re-watch that video of DMX and Jay rapping with Jay in an Adrian Murrell jersey. Jay's rap was worse than Murrells career and he got bodied by the random security guard:mjlol:
  • Written and recorded battle tracks would possibly be a bit closer, probably due to theatrics and perhaps beat picking (if they got to choose diff beats)
  • Children of the Corn and Wu Tang would have a better chances in a live battle
  • With that said, I think some of Nas' and Jay Z's perceived ability has been dulled by the tons of music they have put out. Them at their absolute best is one thing, consistency is another.
  • I agree, generally speaking, that Nas/Jay Z/ BIG are more "versatile" in song making, which would, again, give them a better chance in recorded battle songs..but this is also because GRap, Rakim and BDK stuck to their guns, worked on their individual craft and didn't really make all that much shyt just to advance in the "game" and get sales. They did what they did the best they could and are legends because of it. A lot of it is the change in production over time as well though. That could give off the perception that they were/are more versatile when in reality its not even comparable.
  • Rakim BODIED Jay on Watcher 2. Rakim and KRS One probably had the best verses on Classic.
EDIT:

Jay's verse on Ha might be one of the worst features I have ever heard btw.
