So, Rakim gets mad at Nas for making a track about him as a tribute...and Rakim does the same thing for another man?

It's a bit different if were being honest, Mandela's info was ALL out there, he didn't reveal anything new, some of the Rakim info wasn't out there like that.

here's the story behind the track from Complex

http://www.complex.com/music/2013/12/promo-hear-the-new-song-from-rakim-honoring-nelson-mandela

Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, now in theaters and opening wide on Christmas Day, follows Nelson Mandela’s journey from his rural childhood, through his 27-year incarceration, to his election as president of South Africa. With Golden Globe nominated Idris Elba in the title role, we get a fresh and fascinating look at a man whose life was almost impossibly rich in experience and accomplishment. Now that Nelson Mandela has passed away, we are all reminded just how much he truly changed the world.

Paying homage to Mandela, and celebrating the release of the new film, rap legend Rakim has crafted an original track. We built a sweepstakes around the project, offering our audience the chance to contribute lyrics to the song. Rakim took those lyrics, blended them with his own feelings on Mandela and his reaction to Long Walk to Freedom, and came up with an absolutely one-of-a-kind musical experience.

You can listen to the track below, and stay tuned for an exclusive video interview with Rakim, breaking down his process.

in general, I think it's kinda awkward to do those kind of tributes for someone that's still alive. if nothing else, it puts the person in question in a weird place. Ra has always been "so low key that you might not see me", and just may not really appreciate being put out there like that. as a 'man' it can be kinda awkward receiving that kind of praise from another man. I know I'm kinda like that. I like praise, but feel kinda weird when people try to put me 'on a pedestal', or whatever
