Why are they built like this

What’s the reason for them to be so damn big

Scientists theorise it has something to do with their long boat trips in the South Pacific on their outrigger canoe in the past. Polynesians are an offshoot of Austronesians and they migrated out of Taiwan (Look up the Taiwanese Aboriginals) ~5000 years ago. The Austronesians migrated to Maritime Southeast Asia (and later to Madagascar). However, the Polynesians migrated further into the South Pacific and picked up Melanesians on the way (on average, genetically Polynesians are about 70-80% East Asian and 20-30% Melanesian. Their Mt-DNA/Maternal Genetic lineage is ~95% East Asian and ~5% Melanesian and their Y-DNA/Paternal Genetic lineage is ~50% East Asian and ~50% Melanesian).
Their boat trips in the South Pacific were long and arduous. Rowing requires a lot of physical strength and stamina. It also meant that the travellers could go days without eating. Those who could retain fat and muscle longer, more than likely survived the trips across the Pacific Ocean and thus passed on their genes to the next generation. Also, Polynesians have always retained a warlike culture, where big, strong warriors get the ladies.
